He passed away Tuesday, June 23, at a nursing home in Spokane. Born on March 27, 1873, at Deusaldorf, Germany, he came to America when he was three weeks old to Glencoe, Minn. When he was 14 years old he came to Ritzville with his parents who began farming in the Marcellus area. Twenty years ago he moved to Spokane. On June 6, 1899, he was married to Clara Schwerin. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran church in Spokane. He is survived by his wife Clara; three brothers, G. L. Luiten of Spokane, Jake Luiten of Davenport and Fred Luiten of Ritzville; and numerous nieces and nephews. Conducting the services was the Rev. M. J. Witt. Burial was at Fairmont Memorial park under the arrangements of Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Elmer Luiten of Cheney, Walter Luiten of Spangle, Orland Luiten of Davenport, and Harry Arlt, Orval Luiten and Earl Luiten, all of Ritzville. All are nephews of the deceased. Mrs. Anderson Funeral Rite Held Tuesday Mrs. Effice E. Anderson of Dishman died here last Saturday at the age of 82 years. She suffered a storke about two months ago. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Olaf Stoeve at the Thornhill Valley funeral home in Spokane Tuesday. Burial was in the Pines cemetery, Opportunity. With her husband, the late E. G. (Ted) Anderson, she lived on a farm in the Ralston vicinity from 1916 until 1943. She was born Effie Oakland on Jan. 22, 1882, in Wisconsin. She moved with her parents, August and Christina Nelson Oakland, to Spokane in 1890. She attended the old South Side high school, now Lewis and Clark high school. On Dec. 27, 1905, she was married. She and Mr. Anderson settled on a homestead 20 miles north of Coulee City. They moved to Cheney in 1913, and to Ralston in 1916. After retiring in 1943, the couple moved to the Spokane valley where she lived until her last illness. Five children survive, Mrs. Mildred Evans of Ralston, Mrs. Glenys Burquist of Spokane, Wayne Anderson and Clifford Anderson of Ritzville; and Lawrence Anderson of Los Angeles, Calif. Three brothers and one sister survive. They are Walter Oakland of Bainbridge Island, Sydney Oakland of Lewiston, Ida., Harold Oakland of Spokane; and Maud Jordan of Lake Tahoe, Calif. She was preceded in death by a son Kenneth Ward who died in infancy, and by her husband who died in 1957. She was a member of the Verdale Community Congregational church, and a charter member of the Ralston Grange. Pallbearers were all nephews, Jack Jordan, Ted Oakland, Harold Schwerin, Allan Schwerin, Geroge Shaw and Arnold Evans, jr. Mrs. DeSpain Dies Following a Fall Mrs. Oliver J. (Edna L.) DeSpain died June 20 at a Spokane hospital. She had suffered a fall June 15. She taught as a young woman here in 1913 and 1914. She married an Adams native who from about 1917 until into the 20s was an Adams county engineer. Later the DeSpains lived at Coulee Dam during the construction. Subsquently they lived in Spokane. DeSpain died 13 years ago. Mrs. DeSpain, following her retirement, carried on volunteer work in the U. S. veterans hospital in Spokane. Funeral Rites of Mrs. Plath Held June 22 Washtucna - Mrs. Mabel Heater Plath died June 18 in Spokane at the age of 75. She was buried the following Monday in the Ritzville cemetery. She will be remembered in this area as the former Mabel Chamberlain of Washtucna who married Dillon Heater, farmer living on Rattlesnake Flats between Washtucna and Ritzville. She leaves a son, William Heater of Deer Park; two daughters, Marthella, Mrs. Clarence Stone of Walla Walla; and Floretta, Mrs. Joe L. Thomas of Spokane; two grandchildren, Janine and James Thomas of Spokane; and one brother, Herbert Chamberlain of San Lorenzo, Calif. Attending the services in addition to the immediate family were Mr. and Mrs. Guy Smith of Spokane; a nephew, Herbert Sitton, and a niece Bertha Sitton Denton, Both of Spokane. Mrs. Smith will be remembered as the former Helen Taylor, a cousin whose father, John Taylor, also farmed between Washtucna and Ritzville. Herbert Sitton and Bertha Sitton Denton are children of Mrs. Mac Sitton, a sister of the deceased. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, July 9, 1964 Funeral Rite for Neutzmann Is Held Here Funeral services for the Rev. Herman Neutzmann were held Wednesday at the Philadelphia Congregational church here. The Rev. Mr. Neutzmann was minister of the Philadelphia church here from 1926 till his retirement in 1941. Subsequently for eight years he gave his service to a church at Ruff. He died at the age of 86 at Elk Grove, Calif., where he and Mrs. Neutzmann had lived since 1953. He was born Oct. 29, 1877, at Jastrow, Germany. He began his ministry there in 1903. He was married to Hedwig Haas in 1905 in Germany. They moved in 1909 to Grand Forks, N. D. Subsequent to his ministry there, the Rev. Mr. Neutzmann served churches at Lehr and Kulm, N. Dak., at Laurel, Mont., Hastings, Nebr., and at Ritzville. Surviving are his wife Hedwig, four daughters and four sons. The daughters are Mrs. Lydia Hufnagle, Hansville; Mrs. Esther West, Washtucna; Mrs. Anita Proffitt, South Bend, Wash.; and Mrs. Ellen Feickert, Elk Grove, Calif. The sons are Wilbert and Benno, both of Seattle; Elmer of Stockton, Calif.; and Herbert of Edmonds. There are 25 grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren. The Rev. Herbert C. Haemmelmann conducted the funeral. A quartet sang "Lead Kindly Light" and "Naeher Daheim," accompanied by Mrs. Haemmelmann at the organ. The singers were Jake and Carl Hoefel, Elmer Heimbigner and the Rev. Mr. Haemmelmann. Pallbearers were Wilbert, Herbert, Richard, Benno and Douglas Neutzmann, and William West. Honorary pallbearers were David Hoefel, J. P. Weitzel, Albert Wolsborn, John Hoffman, E. C. Pflugrath and Edward Siegel. Burial was in the Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, July 16, 1964 Solomon Thiel Funeral Held on Wednesday Solly Thiel died Sunday afternoon at the Adams County Memorial hospital. He had been ill since last September. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Philadelphia Congregational church. Solomon B. (Solly) Thiel was born at Ritzville on June 21, 1904, the son of Henry and Alice Thiel. He lived his entire life here, graduating from Ritzville high school. On Feb. 2, 1929, he was married to Marie Klettke. He worked for the Ford garage here while David Hoefel was proprietor, and later for the state highway department. He was a member of Philadelphia Congregational church and of the Eagles lodge here. Surviving are his wife, Marie, and a daughter, Lois M. Peters of Kent. There are two grandchildren, Kirk and Susan Peters of Kent, as well as four nieces and two nephews of Tacoma. Mrs. Marjorie Lefevre of Ritzville was a niece. Gordon Swyter sang "In the Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross," at the funeral services. His organ accompanist was Mrs. Herbert Haemmelmann. The Rev. Mr. Haemmelmann conducted the service. Pallbearers were Roy Betlatch, Larry Blandy, Paul Meyer, Richard Wahl, Jack Scheeler and Robert Danekas. Interment was at the Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Allen Shuler Funeral Held Here Tuesday Graveside funeral services for Allen A. Shuler were held Tuesday in the Ritzville Memorial cemetery. He died Saturday at the Deaconess hospital in Spokane at the age of 72. Shuler was born June 2, 1892, in Oklahoma territory. He grew up at Ft. Smith, Ark. In the early 1900s he moved west and settled in Washington. In 1928 he became a resident of Ritzville. Until 1944 he was active in many community improvement projects. He was district manager of the Washington Water Power company in the Ritzville area until his retirement in 1945. He is survived by his wife, Beulah Shuler and six sons and daughters. They are Helene Silvey, Saratoga, Calif.; Howard Shuler, Almira; Harold Shuler, Los Gatos, Calif.; Hazel Gannon, Mabton; Lauretta Henry, San Jose, Calif.; and Royce Shuler, Warden. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma May Shuler, in August of 1962; and his wife Pearl Sherwood Shuler in 1926. Royce Shuler, a son, also preceded him in death. There are 17 grandchildren, six stepchildren and 17 step great- grandchildren surviving. The Rev. James Updike conducted the service in the cemetery at 11 a.m. Danekas Funeral home was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Carl Hoefel, Milton Sackmann, Richard Kembel, Lee Burroughs and E. J. Wachter. Honorary pallbearers were Ira Rowe, Bruce Wilsey, Will Rosenoff, William Kautz, Henry Ahlers, Wilf Moore, Jake Hoefel, Orvis Kutschkau, A.C. Rummer, Emil Schell and James Kadlec. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, July 23, 1964 Service Today for Earl Peak at St. Mark's Funeral services for Earl Estel Peak will be conducted at St. Mark's Episcopal church this morning at 10 o'clock. Peak died Monday morning at Adams County Memorial hospital. He suffered from lung and throat cancer and had undergone major surgery in April. He was born Feb. 12, 1926, at Indianapolis, Ind. He attended grade school and graduated from high school at Jasper, Ind. He enlised in the navy on Sept. 2, 1943, and was discharged at San Diego, Calif., Feg. 14, 1947. On Oct. 30, 1948, he was married to Bonita Carlson of Kennewick, at Newport. He was employed at Kennewick when he was wed. He later attended business college in Portland, Ore., and was employed at Corvallis, Ore., and in 1955 went to work for Blackledge Furniture in Corvallis. The family moved to Ritzville in 1961 whee they have lived on Griffith road for the past year. He had been employed as truck driver by Snider Trucking company, in Ritzville. Earl Peak is survived by his widow, his mother, Mrs. Vic Remke of Huntingford, Ind., and by five children, Susan Ruth, Sally Jane, Stacey Lynn, Douglas Earl and Darrel James. Also surviving are three sisters and a brother, Mrs. Helen Abel, Jeffersonville, Ind.; Mrs. Betty Brown, Jasper, Ind.; Mrs. Mildred Sands, New Albany, Ind.; and Frank Peak, Greenwood, Ind. The Rev. Paul Dixon of St. Martin's Episcopal church, Moses Lake, will conduct the funeral. C. J. Newland post of the American Legion will conduct military rites at the graveside in Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Mrs. Franson Succumbs Here at Age of 85 Mrs. Augusta Christina Franson died Friday of last week at Hillcrest manor. She was 85. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Danekas chapel here. Interment was in Riverside Memorial park in Spokane at 2 o'clock. The deceased was born in Sweden on Jan. 4, 1879. She came to the United States and to Adams county 63 years ago and has lived here ever since. Her home has been at Hillcrest manor for the past three years. She was married in Ritzville in 1903 to Gus C. Franson. He preceded her in death in 1953. Four daughters and two sons survive. They are Mrs. Eugene Weber and Mrs. J. J. Arlt of Ritzville, Mrs. Albert Arlt and Mrs. Arthur Ott of Addy, Edward Franson of Spokane and Arthur Franson of Spokane. Also surviving are a brother, John P. Johnson of Ritzville, 18 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. The Rev. Beryl Melcher of Zion Congregational church conduced the service here Monday. Milton Sackmann sang "The Old Rugged Cross: and "In the Garden" and was accompanied by Mrs. Orville Moeller at the organ. Pallbearers here and at Riverside park were all grandsons. They were Gilbert White, Walter Arlt, Merrill Ott, Curtis Ott, Gene Arlt, Gerald Franson and Herbert Franson. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, July 30, 1964 Gary Danekas Dead After Crash of Airplane Heading for Ritzville Funeral services for Gary Neal Danekas, 27, Richland, were conducted Tuesday morning at Trinity Methodist church with the Rev. James Updike officiating. Danekas died at 12:34 a.m. Saturday as the result of injuries received from the crash of his light plane about 7 p.m. Friday as he and his family planned to leave Richland to visit her parents in Chewelah, and on to Ritzville Saturday morning to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Donald D. Danekas. Mrs. Danekas, the former Dahleen Dahl of Chewelah, and the couples' 14-month-old son, David Gary, are still in Kadlec Methodist hospital in Richland as a result of their plane crash injuries. Mrs. Danekas is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Dahl of Chewelah. Gary Neal Danekas was born Jan. 1, 1937. He attended Ritzville public school and was graduated from high school here in 1955. He then attended the University of Washington where he received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 1959. While in college he became a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers; Scabbard and Blade, a military honorary; and Delta Tau Delta fraternity. While he college he attained the rank of cadet lieutenant colonel in AFROTC, received honors at Governor's Day review, and was presented the American Military Engineers' award for outstanding achievement in engineering subjects, and a gold medal award as the outstanding ROTC senior commissioned in the engineering section of one of the branches of military service. He was nominated for the gold medal award by the dean of the school of engineering at the university, and it was based on attitude, reliability, initiative, personality and judgement. He entered the U.S. air force as a second lieutenant in 1959 and was discharged as a first lieutenant in August 1962, from Beale Air Force base in California. Following military service, Danekas returned to the University of Washington where he received his master's degree in mechanical engineering in September, 1963. His employment at the time of his death was a reactor engineer, General Electric Hanford project, Richland. He and Mrs. Danekas were married May 22, 1960, at Westminister Congregational church in Spokane. He was a member of Trinity United Protestant church of Richland. Pallbearers were Tom Edwards, Richland; James C. Flint, Seattle; Ronald Heimbigner, Tacoma; Tom Richmond, Richland; Donald E. Kernutt, Seattle; and Tom German of Ritzville. Honorary pallbearers were Roy H. Shoemaker, Kennewick; Orville E. Trapp, Pasco; Phillip Hamric, Frank Jape and John Long, all of Richland; Pete Riggle, Pasco; and Mary Marshall of Ritzville. Besides his parents in Ritzville and his wife and son in Richland, Danekas is survived by his grandmother, Mrs. W. G. Danekas of Ritzville. Interment was in Ritzville Memorial cemetery with Danekas Funeral home in charge of arrangements. Funeral Services for Anna Rosenoff Are Set for Today Funeral services for Anna Elizabeth Rosenoff will be held this (Thursday) afternoon at 2 o'clock at Zion Congregational church. Mrs. Rosenoff died Monday at the age of 78 years. She had lived 72 of those years in Adams county. She was born in Russia on Sept. 23, 1885, and came to this country with her parents when six years of age. Her husband, John Rosenoff, a retired farmer, died April 1, 1962. Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Frank Miller of Ritzville; and a granddaughter, Mrs. Shirley Jarava of Ritzville. There are 22 great- grandchildren. Mrs. Rosenoff was a member of Zion Congregational church. The Rev. Beryl Melcher will conduct the funeral. Sacred selections will be sung by a duet, Mrs. Lillian Miller and Mrs. Pat Schafer. Mrs. Henry Danekas will be organ accompanist. Pallbearers will be Donald Thaut, Charles Elliott, Howard Ragsdale, Alex Miller, Harry Wolsborn and Ralph Kister. Burial will be in Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Danekas Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Young Mother Laid to Rest Here Saturday Funeral services for Mrs. Paul Rhea of Tacoma were held Saturday afternoon at the Menno Mennonite church here. Mrs. Rhea, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Thompson of Ritzville, died in her sleep Wednesday of last week at her home in Tacoma. She suffered from rheumatic fever while a student in high school here. Mrs. Rhea had undergone surgery two and a half years ago. She had been feeling real well since. Beth Mabel Thompson was born at Ritzville Sept. 13, 1929. She was married to Paul Rhea in 1948. Surviving are her husband and three children, John 15, Leon 12, and Mary Beth 11. The family had lived at Tacoma, and at Puyallup, since the parents' marriage. Also surviving are her parents, a sister, Mrs. Robert (Patricia) Owens, Kenneth, Mo.; a brother, Trevor Thompson, Ritzville; and a grandmother, Mrs. Mabel Thompson, of Ritzville. The Rev. Louis Schultz of Tacoma conducted the funeral service here. He was assisted by the Rev. Harris Waltner. Burial was in the Mennonite cemetery. Funeral services in Tacoma had been held Friday afternoon. Mrs. Owens came to Ritzville from Missouri to attend her sister's funeral. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, August 6, 1964 Mrs. Dahleen Danekas' Burial Beside Husband Here Monday Mrs. Gary (Dahleen) Danekas was laid to rest beside her husband at the Ritzville Memorial cemetery here Monday afternoon. She died at Kadlec Methodist hospital in Richland last Friday from the effects of a plane crash at Richland July 24 in which her husband was killed. The Rev. Norman Scruton conducted funeral services at the First Congregational church in Chewelah at 1 o'clock Monday. Graveside services were held here. Mrs. Danekas was born Nov. 5, 1936, to Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Dahl at Chewelah. Her father is publisher of the Independent and a former state senator for 16 years. She graduated from Chewelah high school in 1955 and from Washington State University in 1959. Dahleen Dahl and Gary Neal Danekas were married May 22, 1960, at Westminister Congregational church in Spokane. Mrs. Danekas taught in a high school in California while her husband was in the air force at Beale Air Force base in California. Following Gary's discharge from the air force in August of 1962, the couple lived in Seattle while he secured his master's degree at the University of Washington. She worked at the University of Washington as a student activity advisor. Their home was in Richland where he was employed at the General Electric Hanford project as a reactor engineer. Survivors are her son, David, 14 months; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B.J. Dahl of Chewelah and a brother, Gregory B. Dahl, Chewelah. Also surviving are the parents of her late husband, Mr. and Mrs. Don Danekas of Ritzville. Mrs. Danekas was a member of Delta Gamma sorority at WSU and of the Delta Gamma alumni group in the Tri-Cities area. Both she and Gary were active in Trinity United Congregational church at Richland. Pallbearers were Tom Edwards, Richland; Orville Trapp, Pasco; Tom Ambrose, Tacoma; Dennis Goodman, Don Kernutt and James C. Flint, all of Seattle. David, who also suffered injuries in the plane crash, was transferred from Kadlec hospital to Sacred Heart hospital in Spokane for further treatment. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, August 14, 1964 None Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, August 20, 1964 Mary Gleich Laid to Rest on Wednesday Mrs. Mary Victoria Gleich died of old age Sunday at Hillcrest manor. Funeral services were held at the Danekas chapel Wednesday morning with the Rev. Albert Wagner in charge. Mrs. Gleich was ill only a day, though her health had been failing for a few months. She was 89 years of age. Mary Lang was born July 16, 1875, at Odessa, Russia, the daughter of Jacob and Katherine Lang. She was married to George Gleich on March 17, 1893. She had lived in Adams county over 60 years. Surviving are eight daughters and two sons. They are Mrs. Paul Plager, Conrad Gleich and Mrs. Arthur D. Jones, all of Spokane; Mrs. Manuel Hille, Walla Walla; Emma Holden, Ritzville; Mrs. William Becker, Sprague; Mrs. Richard Koeplin, Ritzville; Mrs. Darwin Harris, Connell; Floyd Gleich, Kennewick; and Mrs. Alex Steinmetz, Ritzville. Bruce Hille sang "Rock of Ages" and "The Old Rugged Cross" at the funeral service. Mrs. Orville Moeller was his accompanist. Pallbearers were Gordon Hille, Larry Steinmetz, Lonny Steinmetz, Daryl Plager, Keith Harris and Wayne Gleich. Honorary pallbearers were Harvey Koeplin, Michael Gleich, Duane Harris, Donald Harris, David Steinmetz, James Jones and Robert Weber. Burial was in the Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Mrs. Marie Dorgan Graveside Service Held Wednesday Graveside services for Mrs. Marie A. Schroeder were conducted Wednesday afternoon at the Ritzville cemetey. She was born near Paha on July 2, 1892, the daughter of Ferinand and Katharina Schroeder, early pioneers. She died in Portland, Ore., Monday following a prolonged illness. She lived in Ritzville until 1922 when she and her family moved to Portland. She is survived by her daughters, Mrs. John (Doris) Wickenkamp and Mrs. Philip (Patricia) Howe and six grandchildren, all of Portland. Also surviving are two brothers, Jack Schroeder of Seattle and Fred Schroeder of San Francisco; and two sisters, Wilma Sorocco, San Francisco and Charlotte Tracy, Seattle. A half sister, Martha Lewis of Portland, is a survivor. Funeral services were held at the Gable funeral home in Portland. Edgar Phillips Services Held at Lind Monday Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Lind Methodist church for Edgar D. Phillips. He died Friday at the Holy Family home in Spokane at the age of 76. Phillips had been a resident of Adams county and a farmer here since the spring of 1918. He was born Sept. 24, 1887, the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Phillips at Lake City, Mo. He and Mabel S. Fickle were married Feb. 28, 1909, at Sommerset, Kas. The family moved to Washington from Paola, Kas. Three children were born to the Phillips, two of whom survive. They are Mrs. Allen (Elsie) Deaton of Lind, and Chester Phillips of Lind. A son, John Shelby, died March 22, 1922, at the age of three. Mrs. Phillips died May 26, 1951. Surviving besides the son and daughter are four grandchildren, Edgar Deaton of Seattle, Keith Deaton of Ellensburg, and Clark Deaton of Ellensburg and Clark and Bernadine Phillips of Lind. There are also three brothers and five sisters surviving. The brothers are Ardy Phillips of Paola, Kas., Charles Phillips of Mountain Home, Ark., and Henry Phillips of Lind. The surviving sisters are Mrs. Mary Snauffer of Paola, Kas.; Mrs. Alvin (Mande) Annis and Mrs. Lenora Minter of Seattle, Mrs. Leo (Hazel) Parcham of Lake Stevens and Mrs. Faye Lienhardt of Kansas City, Mo. The Rev. Roger Johnson conducted the services. A duet, Mrs. Emil Fode and Mrs. Alfred Smart, sang "Goodnight and Goodmorning," and "In the Garden." Mrs. J. N. Campbell was their organ accompanist. Pallbearers were Douglas Urquhart, Wendell Longmeier, Albert Gross, Irvin Swarts, Harry Kasper and Oliver Abney. Burial was in the Lind cemetery. Danekas Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, August 27, 1964 Emil S. Selcho Funeral Rites Held Monday Emil S. Selcho died Friday at the Adams County Memorial hospital following a short illness. Funeral services were conducted Monday morning at the chapel of the Danekas Funeral home. He was born July 6, 1896, in Bessarabia, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gottfried Selcho. He attended school in Ritzville. He was married to Jessie Bauer in Spokane. Selcho was a salesman for the David Hoefel Ford garage, and in more recent years at the Farmers' Supply. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the C. J. Newland post of the American Legion in Ritzville. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Emil Selcho; one son, Gene; two daughters, Mrs. Ed Faure, jr., and Mrs. Milton Wahl; and a brother, John Selcho, all of Ritzville. Also surviving are a brother, Reinhold Selcho and a step brother, Clarence Fleming of Seattle; two half sisters, Miss Sade Selcho of San Francisco and Mrs. Violet Harlow of Dayton, Ohio, and his stepmother, Mrs. Christine Selcho. There are seven grandchildren surviving. The Rev. Ronald Kratzo conducted the funeral. Mrs. Frank Hebard sang "In the Garden" and "Does Jesus Care." Mrs. Fred Jingling was organist. Dietrich Stockman Funeral Held in Emanuel Lutheran Church Funeral services for Dietrich E. Stockman, sr., 94, were held Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Emanuel Lutheran church here with the Rev. Alfred Wagner officiating. Mr. Stockman died in a Spokane hospital Aug. 16. He had been in ill health for some time. He was born in Hamburg, Minn., April 18, 1870, the son of Henry and Katherine Stockman. A former Ritzville resident, he had lived in Spokane for the past 20 years. Prior to that he farmed in the Carico hills district for many years. He was the oldest charter member of Emanuel Lutheran church at Ritzville. He donated a plot of land to the church which is now the Lutheran cemetery here. Stockman served as deputy sheriff of Adams county. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Spokane. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Alvena Schroeder of Sprague and Mrs. Ralph Hargrave of Spokane. There are three sons surviving, William F. and Dietrich R., jr., both of Ritzville; and Ernest H. Stockman of Spokane. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Two sisters survive, Mrs. Christine Hertwig and Mrs. Elsie Ulbricht of St. Paul, Minn. Ernest Stockman, a brother, of Green Isle, Minn., survives as do numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Mr. Stockman's seven grandsons, Stanley Stockman, Dewayne Schroeder, Dale Stockman, Larry Schroeder, Donald Stockman, Michael Hargrave and Robert Stockman. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Telecky, Tom McMahon, Herman Schwisow, Frank Schwisow, William Sickman and Richard Bierman. Gordon Swyter sang two solos, "Saved by Grace" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Mrs. Orville Moeller was organist. Hazen and Jaeger funeral home of Spokane was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Lutheran cemetery. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, September 3, 1964 H. Wellsandt Rites are Set Here Friday Henry John Wellsandt, 37, son of former mayor and Mrs. Henry H. Wellsandt of Dayton, succumbed to a pneumonia attack at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, at the Veterans administration hospital in Walla Walla. A victim of multiple sclerosis since the early 1950s, he had been a patient at Pleasant Valley Rest home until taken to the VA hospital in Walla Walla Monday morning. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, from the Emanuel Lutheran church in Ritzville. Arrangements are in charge of the Danekas Funeral home. Wellsandt was born Aug. 24, 1927, at Colfax and went to Dayton with his parents in 1948. He was graduated from Dayton high school in 1945. He served in the navy in 1945 during World War II and was recalled to duty in the Korean conflict in 1950. He graduated from Washington State university in 1949. Until his illness became severe, he was employed by the Green Giant company as farm office accounting manager. Wellsandt was a past master of Dayton Lodge No. 26, F&AM, and held membership in the Royal Arch Masons, American Legion and Elks. He was baptized and confirmed as a member of Emanuel Lutheran church in Ritzville. Members of the family include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Wellsandt of Dayton; a son, Emil Scott, and a daughter, Mary Melinda, both of Selah; and numerous relatives in the Ritzville area. Gust Rites Friday at Philadelphia Church in Ritzville Funeral services for Alfred Gust will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. from the Philadelphia Congregational church with the Rev. Herbert Haemmelmann officiating. Gust, 54, died suddenly Tuesday. Burial will be in the Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Danekas Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A complete obituary will be published next week. Last Rites for Emil Telecky Funeral services were held Aug. 22 at Waitsburg for Emil Telecky, who died Aug. 19 suddenly of a heart attack. He was born Oct. 13, 1897. He is survived by his wife Gladys, at home; two sons, Dan of Pierce, Ida., and Leonard of Seattle; three brothers, Frank of Ritzville, Charles of Sprague, and Anton of Spokane; three sisters, Mrs. Emma Kubik of Ritzville, Mrs. Fannie Anderson of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. Anna Biggs of Spokane; and three grandchildren. He had recently attended a Telecky family reunion in Ritzville. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, September 10, 1964 Mrs. Marto Rites Held Wednesday at Sprague Church Funeral services for Mrs. Justin Marto were conducted at Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic church in Sprague Wednesday afternoon. A resident at Hillcrest manor, she died Sunday at the Adams County Memorial hospital. She was born Feb. 18, 1885, at Drain, Ore. Survivors are a son, Father Joseph P. Marto of Pasco; twoo brothers, Fred H. Brown of Myrtle Point, Ore., and Neil S. Brown of West Linn, Ore.; and two sisters, Mrs. Alice Wiegand, North Las Vegas, Nev., and Mrs. W. J. Phelan of Chilliwalk, B.C. Father Meyer and Father Marto conducted the service. Pallbearers were Elroy Crume, Dick Whipple, bob Laney, Joe Culligan, Lloyd Whipple and Dick Harding. St. John Rites held Sept. 4 in Washtucna WASHTUCNA - Graveside funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 4, for Arthur L. St. John, with Ball and Dodd Funeral home in charge. The Rev. Ralph Smith conducted the services. St. John was born Jan. 22, 1891, in New Hartford, Ill., and came to Washtucna with his parents when a small child. He had his schooling in Washtucna. He passed away Tuesday, Sept. 1, in Spokane after a heart attack. He was married to Miss Ollie B. Eggers on March 1, 1911, in Ritzville, to which union was born three children, Earl of Simi, Calif.; Kenneth of Washtucna and Darlene (Mrs. Giebelhouse) of Portland. He also is survived by seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Alfred Gust Laid to Rest Here Friday Funeral services were held at the Philadelphia Congregational church last Friday for Alfred Gust. Gust's death came suddenly, the result of a blood clot, on Tuesday of last week. He was born March 13, 1910, at Warden, the son of Simon and Bertha Gust. When he was about nine years of age the family moved to the Ralston area where he lived since. He was married at Zion Congregational church on Dec. 10, 1939, to Violet Mary Kison. Survivors are his wife, a son, Kenneth W.; a brother, Alex, of Washtucna; and two sisters, Emma Carpenter of Spokane and Ruth Palmer of Spokane. There are two grandchildren. Kenneth has been farming with his father. Alfred Gust built guns as a hobby. He enjoyed big game hunting and had made successful trips to Canada and Wyoming, bringing home trophies. He was a member of the Ritzville Gun club. In later years he found joy in the company of his grandchildren. He was a member of the Ralston Congregational church. The Rev. Herbert C. Watson of Lind died Tuesday at the Ritzville Memorial hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at the Lind Methodist church at 11 o'clock Friday morning, with the Rev. Roger Johnson conducting them. Watson was 81 years old when he died. He had been in poor health the past three years. Burial will be at Greenwood cemetery in Spokane. Miss Wolsborn Funeral Held Here Tuesday Funeral services were conducted at the Philadelphia Congregational church Tuesday afternoon for Alvina Albertina Wolsborn. She had lived her entire life on the homestead farm where she was born northwest of Ritzville. Friday of last week she was taken to Hillcrest manor. She suffered a cerebal hemorrhage there and died early Saturday morning. She had suffered from a lingering illness. Alvina Albertina Wolsborn was born April 11, 1898, the daughter of Henry and Augusta Schuelke Wolsborn. She attended the Ritzville elementary and secondary schools. She never married, continuing to live with her parents. She cared for them until their deaths and continued to live on the ranch six miles northwest of Ritzville. Much of her time was spent in the garden, especially in raising flowers which she shared with others. Surviving are three brothers, Albert, Martin and Harry, of Ritzville, and two sisters, Minnie Wolsborn of Ritzville and Mrs. Ray (Anna) Buyers of Portland, Ore. There are three nephews and one niece surviving. A brother, Will, died before Alvina's demise. Miss Wolsborn was a lifetime member of the Philadelphia Congregational church. She was a member of the first confirmation class there when the Rev. Jacob Morach conducted the rite. The Rev. Herbert C. Haemmelmann conducted the funeral service. A male quartet, Carl Hoefel, Jake Hoefel, Jess Graber and Elmer Heimbigner, sang "In the Garden," and "Nather Daheim." Mrs. Haemmelmann was organ accompanist. Pallbearers were Robert Ott, Chester Templin, Ralph Kisler, Donald Miller, Jonathan Borgens and Harley Bauer. Burial was in Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Gotlieb Weber Funeral Rites Held Saturday Funeral services for Gotlieb P. Weber were conducted at Zion Congregational church here Saturday afternoon. He died Wednesday evening of last week at his home, 209 east Second, as a result of a heart attack. He had been in failing health, especially during the last month. He was born Sept. 5, 1886, at Tripp, S. Dak., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Weber. He was one of 18 children, six of whom survive. He lived during his life at Linton and Braddock, N. Dak., at Odessa and in Ritzville. He farmed for five years at Schoonover station, and was employed by the Centennial Flouring mills for 37 years. On Sept. 14, 1907, he was married to Agnes Mary Geissler of Odessa. He is survived by his wife, Agnes Mary, and by three daughters, Mrs. Lillian Miller of Ritzville, Mrs. Opal Stephens of Soap Lake and Mrs. Violet Hardin of Riverside, Calif. There are two grandsons surviving, Merrill N. Schutz of Spokane, and Dennis C. Stephens of Soap Lake. Two sisters, Mrs. John Hopp, jr., of Odessa and Mrs. Nathan Reiman of Stockton, Calif., survive. Four brothers survive, H. P. Weber of Stockton, Calif., J. P. Weber of Odessa, John P. Weber of Oregon City, Ore., and the Rev. Jonathan P. Weber of Rocky Ford, Colo. Five great-grandchildren are living. Gotlieb Weber was a member of Zion Congregational church here, and of the Modern Woodmen. The Rev. Beryl Melcher conducted the funeral service. Milton Sackmann sang, "Beyond the Sunset," and "In the Garden." His accompanist was Mrs. Orville Moeller. Pallbearers were Dick Stockman, jr., Jim Kadlec, Henry Davis, Jake Ottmar, Bill Franks and Roy Langenheder. Honorary pallbearers were Henry Hoffman, Otto Schoonover, Fred Langenheder and Ervin Zeimer. Burial was in the Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Funeral Saturday for Mrs. Moesle Funeral services for Elizabeth Moesle will be held at Emanuel Lutheran church Saturday at 2 o'clock. She died Tuesday night at Hillcrest manor here at the age of 91 years. She had been there for the past 11 months and had been in ill health. Her home is at 105 East Broadway. The Rev. Albert Wagner will conduct the funeral. Burial will be in the Lutheran cemetery here. An obituary of Mrs. Moesle will be presented in next week's Journal-Times.
