She died Friday at Hillcrest manor after a residence there with her husband Frank of the past four months. Mrs. Jones was born in 1881 at Little Rock, Ark. She had been a resident of the Opportunity community for 50 years. She was a member of the Baptist church in Spokane. Surviving besides her husband are a brother, Chester Jones, of Seattle, and a niece, May Ella Robinson of Oklahoma City, Okla. The Rev. Ernest Sprenger of Philadelphia Congregational church conducted the funeral. Interment was in the Riverside Park cemetery at Spokane. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, October 14, 1965 Funeral Held for Frank Jones Frank Marion Jones, 87, followed his wife, Iola, in death Friday just five days later at Hillcrest manor here. Mr. and Mrs. Jones had made their home in Opportunity until during the last four months they lived at Hillcrest manor. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock at the Danekas Funeral home here. Burial was in the Riverside Park cemetery in Spokane. A sister-in-law, Mrs. Anna Burns of California, was the only known survivor. She had come for the funeral of Mrs. Jones. Within two hours of reaching home again in California, she left to come here for the funeral of Frank Jones. Herman Freese Funeral Held Herman Freese, for 23 years a Spokane valley resident, died Saturday in a Spokane nursing home. Freese was 78 years of age. He had been a farmer here for many years. He was a member of Opportunity Grange and Opportunity Odd Fellows lodge. He also belonged to the C. J. Newland post of the American Legion and Zion Congregational church. He was a veteran of World War I. He is survived by two sisters, Helen Freese of Spokane valley and Mrs. Minnie Dittman; and two brothers, George and John Freese of Ritzville. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Thornhill Valley Funeral home in Spokane valley. Benge Pioneer F. E. Connell Laid to Rest Services were held Monday at Danekas Funeral chapel for Franklin Emerson Connell. He died suddenly last Friday at his home near Benge. He was 70 years of age. Connell came to the Benge community in 1899. He engaged in wheat and cattle farming there all his life. Survivors include his wife, Zona at home; and two sons, Lloyd Connell of Washtucna and Floyd Keith Connell of Benge. There are two brothers surviving, Dee B. Connell of Prosser and C. E. "Tic" Connell of Washtucna. Surviving also are four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Connell was an enthusiastic friend of youth,. For the last eight years he had been a 4-H leader in Ritzville, cheerfully driving back and forth to carry on duties. He was a member of the IOOF lodge at Benge, the Adams County Cattlemen's association and the Washington Association of Wheat Growers. The Rev. Ralph Smith of Washtucna conducted the funeral. Sacred selections by Merrill Womach, were "Crossing the Bar" and "Beyond the Sunset." Pallbearers were Alfred Kent, Herbert Kent, Keith Honn, Cleon Honn, James Clinesmith and John Stephenson. Honorary pallbearers were Roy Scott, Allen Scott, George Callaway, Art Barnes, Ernie Norris, A. A. Erickson and Charles Clinesmith. Burial was in the Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, October 21, 1965 W. Wellsandt Funeral Set for Friday Funeral services for Walter A. Wellsandt will be held tomorrow at 2 o'clock at Emanuel Lutheran church. He died Monday. He had been in failing health the past six months. He was born September 16, 1904, in Spokane and had spent his entire life in Ritzville. He is survived by his wife Pauline; a daughter, Mrs. Eugene Ahrendt of Tacoma; and a son Dennis Wellsandt of Ritzville. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Hubert Maas of Ritzville; Mrs. Quay Sewell of Spokane; and Mrs. Joe T. Smith of Sprague; and by one brother, Ted Wellsandt of Ritzville. His mother, Mrs. August Wellsandt of Ritzville, also survives the deceased. There are three grandchildren. Walter Wellsandt was a member of Emanuel Lutheran church, the Ritzville Lions club, the Ritzville Gun club and Marcellus Grange. The Rev. Albert Wagner and the Rev. F. J. Ahrendt will conduct the funeral service. Burial will be in the Lutheran cemetery. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, October 28, 1965 William Davison Funeral Service Will Be Friday Funeral services for William Davison will be held at the Methodist church in Lind at 2 o'clock Friday. The retired rancher died Tuesday at the Adams County Memorial hospital. He was 83 years of age. Born July 1, 1882, in Oregon, Davison was a member of the Lind Methodist church and of the Sandhills Grange. He is survived by a son, Rolland Davison of Lind, a sister, Mrs. Fred Pinkerton of Athena, Ore., and two grandchildren. The Rev. Roger Johnson will conduct the funeral service. Burial will be in the Lind cemetery. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, November 4, 1965 Mrs. Hutchins, Former Resident, Accident Victim Two funeral services are being held for a former Ritzville resident, Mrs. Lorene Zella Hutchins. Mrs. Hutchins died Monday in an auto accident between Moscow and Pullman. Services at Moscow were held Wednesday morning at the Presbyterian church. A service is planned this afternoon at the Conconully Community church with burial following at Conconully. She was born June 26, 1921, in Salem, Ore. She had lived in Moscow since April of 1965 and in Ritzville previous to that. Her husband, Donald W. Downs, died October 3, 1960, in Ritzville. She remarried to Allen Hutchins who died last year. Mrs. Hutchins is survived by two sons, Gene Downs of Moscow and Errol Downs of Wenatchee. Two daughters survive, Mrs. Gene Kagele of Ritzville and Mrs. Ronald Nunamaker of Washtucna. There wre two step children, John and Wallace Hutchins of Moscow. Three brothers survive, Gene Clifford of Okanogan, Ted Clifford of Cashmere and Allen Clifford of Enumclaw. There are two sisters surviving, Mrs. Joseph Dorian of Washtucna and Mrs. Everett Barnett of Cashmere. Walter Teske Rites Held Here Tuesday Walter Teske, a life-long resident of Ritzvillle, died suddenly at his home Friday of last week. Funeral services were held at Emanual Lutheran church Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. Albert F. Wagner conducting them. Walter Teske was born July 3, 1893, in the Ritzville community. He was a farmer all his life, retiring from active farming about 15 years ago and moving to town. He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran church and of Marcellus Grange. His wife Lydia survives him at home. There are two daughters surviving, Mrs. Tom Speck of The Dalles, Ore., and Mrs. Raymond Fode, Lind. A son, Howard of Ritzville, survives. Mr. Teske is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Briggs of Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, Canada, and Miss Agatha Teske, Pullman. Three brothers survive, Paul and Arthur of Ritzville and Ernest of Albany, Ore. There are 11 grandchildren. Mrs. Ralph Allert sang "Softly and Tenderly" and "Saved by Grace." Her organ accompanist was Mrs. Orville Moeller. Pallbearers were Robert Stanfield, Fred Schwisow, Loren Woodside, Albert Koeplin, Carl Heinemann and Charles Minion. Honorary pallbearers were Ed Tesch, W. E. Scheel, Emil Wellsandt, John Freese, Frank Woodside, Charles Breitkreutz, Richard Dehnel, Henry Pfannekuchen and George Freese. Burial was in the Lutheran cemetery here. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, November 11, 1965 Reuben Kissler Rites Are Today Reuben Kessler died suddenly Monday evening at his home in Odessa. He had grown up here in Ritzville and was a member of the American Legion post here. Funeral services are being held at 1 o'clock today at the Lutheran church in Odessa. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Harry Tompkins of Ritzville; two sisters in Spokane, Mrs. Edward Heiner and Mrs. Ted Tschritter; and a sister in Odessa, Mrs. Charles Jeske. Karl Kissler, a brother, lives in Spokane. S. S. Smart Funeral Held at Lind Funeral services for Sherman Scott Smart were held Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist church in Lind. Smart died Friday at Deaconess hospital in Spokane after an illness of about three weeks duration. He was born August 12, 1892, in Billings, Mo. He married Pearl Overton and she died in 1926. He remarried in 1936 to Elsie Krehbiel. Mr. Smart was a farmer. He had moved into Lind a number of years ago. He was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge. He served as a member of the Lind school board for 20 years. He also was a member of the town council for 20 years. He was president of the Union Elevator and Warehouse Co. for 42 years. His wife, Elsie, survives him as do a daughter and three sons. Mrs. Clarence Wahl of Portland is the daughter. The sons are Orville and Alfred Smart of Lind, and Charles Smart of Honolulu, Hawaii. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Ella Richardson of Ritzville, Mrs. Mollie Richardson of Cashmere and Mrs. Bessie King of Los Angeles. There are 10 grandchildren. The Rev. Roger Johnson and the Rev. Harris Waltner conducted the funeral service. A male quartet, Ralph Gering, Joe Jantz, Leslie Schrag and Walter Jantz, sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Under His Wings." Organist was Mrs. Ruth Franz. Pallbearers were J. D. Urquhart, Al Gross, Wendall Longmeier, Irvin Swartz, Dan Krehbiel and Robert Wright. Concluding services and vault interment were held at the Lind cemetery. Danekas Funeral home was in charge of arrangements. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, November 18, 1965 Max Passler Laid To Rest Max F. Passler of Maple Valley died November 10 after a short illness. He was an industrial engineer and had been a Boeing employee about 25 years. He was born in Spokane and attended Lewis and Clark high school and Gonzaga university. He was a member of University Post No. 11, American Legion. Survivors include his wife Helen and sons, William, Fred and Reid Passler, Maple Valley; his mother, Mrs. Christine Passler and a sister, Mrs. Mollie Mitchell, both of Ritzville. Services were held Saturday. Hickman Newland Funeral Is Today Funeral services for John Hickman Newland will be conducted at the Smith Funeral home in Spokane this morning at 11 o'clock. Newland, a former Ritzville resident, died Monday following a heart attack on Saturday in Seattle. He was a resident of Seattle. He grew up in Ritzville and attended rural school here. Two sons survive him, J. Andrew Newland in California, and Joe G. Newland, Olympia. There are two sisters surviving, Mrs. John Truax and Mrs. A. Pohl, both of Seattle; and a brother, Robert S. Newland of Ritzville. Christensen Rites Held Wednesday Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at Good Hope Lutheran church in Lind for Percy K. Christensen. He died Saturday night at the Othello Community hospital. He was ill only a short time and had been at the hospital only two days. An employee of the Lind Grange Supply, Christensen had been a resident of the community for 22 years. He was 61 years of age. Survivors are his wife, Ann at the home, a daughter, Karol Butler of Tacoma and a son, Percy, jr., at the home. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Emil Singbeil, Heron, Mont., and Mrs. Joyce Stephens of Hazen, N. Dak., and Lloyd Christensen of Lakeside, Mont. There are two grandchildren. The Rev. Roy Johnson conducted the funeral service. Mary Ann Klemmer sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "God will Take Care of You." Her accompanist was Carla Bengston. Pallbearers were Kenneth Swartz, Kenneth Palmer, Gustav Strohmaier, Glenn Waddell, Charles Labes and Leonard Koepp. Honorary pallbearers were Howard Fode, Ray Watkins, Donald Scheeler, Douglas Wahl, Edward Fode, Kent Bucher and Edward Golden. Burial was in the Lind cemetery. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, November 25, 1965 Funeral Monday for Mrs. Krouse Funeral services were conducted at the Lind Methodist church Monday for Mrs. Lillian Krouse. Mrs. Krouse died Friday at Hillcrest manor after being a resident there for the past two months. She was a member of the Legion auxiliary, the Rebekah lodge and the Lind Methodist church. She was born March 23, 1884. Surviving are a son, William Austin and a brother, Harry Stroll of York, Pa. There are two grandchildren and one great grandchild. Death Takes Pioneer Hatton Postmistress HATTON - Word just recently reached this vicinity telling of the death of another former Hatton resident, Mrs. Fannie Birdwell. Memorial services were held at the Goodrich Funeral Chapel in Osceola, Missouri, with interment in the Osceola cemetery. She was born September 13, 1870. Her death occurred on March 23, 1965. The family homesteaded west of Hatton. Mr. Birdwell either owned or worked in the hardware store in Hatton, and Mrs. Birdwell had the Hatton post office and candy store. The location was where Mrs. Harry Cottingham now lives. The Birdwell family left Hatton in either 1928 or 1929. Mrs. Birdwell had been living the last 22 years in Kansas City, Mo., with her son, Walter J. Birdwell, who was just a baby when his father died. She was a member of the Christian church. Other survivors are two grandsons, Walter Birdwell, stationed at Austin, Tex., with the army intelligence and Tom Birdwell of Kansas City, Mo. Newland Rites Held In Spokane Funeral services for John Hickman Newland were held at Smith Funeral home in Spokane Nov. 18. The Rev. James Updike of Trinity Methodist church in Ritzville conducted the service. Newland was born April 30, 1885, on the Newland homestead five miles southwest of Ritzville. He grew up there and farmed with his father and two brothers. In 1921 he married Sylvia Mudgett of Spokane. He retired in 1936 and moved to Ritzville where he worked for the Federal Land bank until they moved to Portland, Ore., in 1943. In 1943 the Newlands moved to Seattle where he lived until his death on Nov. 15, following a short illness. His wife preceded him in death in 1960, as did his brother Charles in 1918. Surviving members of his family are his two sons, J. Andrew Newland of Burlingame, Calif.; and Joseph A. Newland of Olympia. There are two sisters surviving, Esther Traux and Emma Pohl, both of Seattle; as well as his brother, Robert Newland of Ritzville. Pallbearers were Roy Scott, James Kadlec, Daniel Kembel, Ray Danekas, John Freese and Elmer Schoessler. Honorary pallbearers were John N. Ott, Will Rosenoff, A. H. Varnes and S. E. Edwards. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, December 2, 1965 Irene Kittel Funeral Held Here Monday Funeral services were held Monday for Mrs. J. C. (Irene) Kittel. She died suddenly on Thanksgiving day following a heart attack. Her husband, Jack C. Kittel, died here September 4, 1965. The Rev. James Updike conducted the funeral at Danekas Funeral home. Milton Sackmann sang "God Understands" and "Abide With Me." His organ accompanist was Mrs. Orville Moeller. Mrs. Kittel was born Mary Irene Wood, daughter of John and Lavina Wood at Ellendale, N. Dak., on June 13, 1889. She attended school at Lake City, Minn., and graduated there from high school. She was married at Sioux Falls, S. Dak., to John Charles Kittel on September 13, 1911. The couple had lived in Ritzville from 1915 on. Mrs. Kittel was a member of the Methodsit church. She belonged to the PEO sisterhood, the Garden club and a reading circle. She was a church organist for 30 years. Four sons survive Mrs. Kittel. They are Charles Kittel of Brewster, Rodney P. Kittel of Ventura, Calif., John Howard Kittel of Napierville, Ill., and Dale Franklin Kittel of Grants, N. Mex. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild. S. R. Holcomb, Clerk of House, Dies at Bellevue Ray Holcomb, a 1912 graduate of Ritzville high school, died Thanksgiving day at a Bellevue hospital. He was for 30 years chief clerk of the Washington State House of Representatives. Cause of his death was cancer. A clipping of an obituary carried Friday in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer was sent to Ritzville friends by Mrs. Lola Clifton. S. R. Holcomb was the son of the late O. R. Holcomb who was Superior Court judge here and later a state supreme court justice. The younger Holcomb began his career with the legislature in 1917, taking a job as enrollment clerk to pay for his education at the University of Washington. He served in World War I. He was elected Chief Clerk of the house in 1933. Holcomb's survivors include his wife Helen, Bellevue; a son, Blake, with the United States Agency for International Development, Seoul, Korea; and two daughters, Mrs. B. G. Jerry, Bellevue and Sarah Holcomb, Portland, Ore. Funeral services were held Monday at Mills and Mills mortuary, Olympia. Glenn Heiller Funeral Held Glenn H. Heiller, died Thanksgiving day at the Adams County Memorial hospital. He had lived here the past two years and had been an employee at Hillcrest manor. He was born November 14, 1905. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Marie Taylor of Ritzville, by a brother, Fain Heiller of Spokane and by two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Hogue of Glouster, Ohio, and Mrs. Ben Oestreich of Ritzville. Funeral services were held at 9 o'clock Saturday morning at the Danekas Funeral chapel. The Rev. Ernest Sprenger conducted the funeral. Burial was in the Riverside cemetery at Spokane. Engel Sielaff Funeral Held on Saturday Funeral services for Mrs. August (Engel) Sielaff were conducted at Emanuel Lutheran church Saturday afternoon. She died the day before Thanksgiving at the Adams County Memorial hospital after being there less than a day. She was born in Germany on November 22, 1890. She lived in the Ritzville community for 60 years. Surviving her are her husband, August Sielaff, two daughters and three sons. The daughters are Mrs. Theodore Meske of Cameron, Ida., and Mrs. Milton Niederkleine of Ritzville. The sons are Lester Sielaff of Ritzville, Walter Sielaff of Othello, and Dale Sielaff of Moses Lake. Also surviving are two brothers, Herbert Moeller of Ritzville and Otto Moeller of Trentwood. There are two sisters surviving, Mrs. Frank Schwisow and Mrs. Herman Schwisow. Twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive. The Rev. Albert Wagner conducted the funeral service. Milton Sackmann sang "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" and "Peace Perfect Peace." Mrs. Orville Moeller was his accompanist. Pallbearers were Harry and Fred Schwisow, William, Arnold and Orville Moeller and Victor Wellslandt. Burial was by vault interment in the Lutheran cemetery. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, December 9, 1965 Earl E. Wachtel Funeral Service Held Wednesday Earl E. Wachtel of Washtucna was buried yesterday in the Washtucna cemetery. He had suffered injuries when a vehicle ran over him at Othello two weeks ago. He died Saturday at the Deaconess hospital in Spokane. Earl Wachtel was born in Missouri February 25, 1887. He was a corn farmer. Surviving are his wife Rose of Washtucna; daughter Mrs. Majesty Reger, California; and two sons, Hugh of Rathdrum, Ida., and Beauford of Washtucna. There are also 15 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren, The funeral was conducted at the Washtucna Community church by the Rev. Ralph Smith. E. B. Lee sang "Rock of Ages" and "Abide With Me." His organ accompanist was Mrs. E. B. Lee. Pallbearers were Alfred Sitko, John Klee, Floyd Cameron, Jerry Moran, E. C. Connell and Jim Woodyard. Woman's Father Dies - Burial Is In Missouri HATTON - Mrs. Arnold Thompson's father, Tom McArthur, died at a Martha and Mary nursing home in Poulsbo on November 30. Mrs. Thompson went to Suquamish Thursday and stayed with her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Strand, until after the funeral service Saturday in Suquamish. Mrs. Strand accompanied the body to Independence, Mo., for services and burial on Tuesday, December 7. Former Postmistress at Washtucna Dies WASHTUCNA - Mrs. Ruby Murphy received word that her aunt, Mrs. Maud Volz, had died at Long Beach, Calif., where she made her home. Mrs. Volz was postmistress in Washtucna years ago. Volz owned the garage that now is Sitko Chevrolet. Their home was the former grandpa Snyder home. Mrs. Marie Taylor Is Laid To Rest Mrs. Marie Sarah Taylor died here a week and day after her son Glenn Heiller had died on Thanksgiving day. Mrs. Taylor was 87 years of age, a resident of Hillcrest manor. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mae Oestreich of Ritzville and Mrs. Pearl Hogue of Glouster, Ohio. A son, Fain Heiller of Spokane survives as do two grandchildren. The Rev. Ernest Sprenger conducted the funeral service at the Danekas Funeral chapel Monday morning at 11 o'clock. Burial was at Riverside Park cemetery in Spokane, where her son had also been buried. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, December 16, 1965 Funeral Rites Here Monday for Lan Evans Landreth Wesley Evans, a former Ritzville mayor, died suddenly at his home here last Friday. Evans, 75 years of age, had walked to Main avenue during the morning and carried home a sack of groceries. He had been in good health. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 o'clock at Trinity Methodist church. Evans was for 57 years a Ritzville resident. He was born September 18, 1890, in Virginia. He formerly operated a restaurant and bakery at the location now occupied by the Whisperin Palms. He also built and owned the present Ahern Electric building used for a period of years by a J. C. Penney store. From 1933 to 1937 Evans was mayor of Ritzville. He was active in the Ritzville Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of F&AM lodge No. 101 of Ritzville, as well as of the Odd Fellows lodge here. He belonged to the Methodist church. Evans served from 1917 to 1919 in World War I. He is survived by his wife Gertrude at the home, 505 South Adams; by a son Wesley, also of Ritzville; and two grandchildren. The grandchildren are Jimmie of Ritzville and the former Beverly Evans, Mrs. Harlan Thrall of Marlin. The Thralls have one son, Troy, a great grandson of the deceased. The Rev. James Updike conducted the funeral service. Gordon Swyter sang "In The Garden" and "The Lord's Prayer." Accompanists were Mr. Orville Moeller and Miss Margaret Baumann. Vault entombment was at Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Danekas Funeral chapel had charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Edward Cross, W. H. Proctor, S. E. Edwards, Jake Hoefel, H. E. Maas and Robert Stanfield. Honorary pallbearers were Otto Pfannekuchen, Frank Heimbigner, Frank Marshall, L. E. Haight, C. Wentworth, Otto Halwas, Ed Tesch, Ben Snyder, G. F. Weber, Jed Rowe, Kenneth Colwell, Ed Franks, Paul Geschke, Frank West, Paul Fickle and Richard Dehnel. Mother of Del Smith Succumbs Mrs. Pearl Smith, mother of Delbert Smith, died suddenly Tuesday at Omak, her home. The Del Smith family left Wednesday to go to Omak. Funeral services are planned on Friday. Mrs. Smith's health had been poor for quite a while, though since her recent return from a stay at the hospital she seemed better. Delbert Smith is basketball coach at Ritzville high school and a junior high teacher. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, December 23, 1965 William Dehnel, Former Resident, Dies in California William E. Dehnel, 82 years of age, a former resident of Ritzville, died December 16 at his home in Long Beach, Calif. He was born on a farm near Wausau, Wis., December 19, 1883. He came to Ritzville with his parents, two brothers and a sister in 1900. Later he filed on a homestead and bought some more land at Fairfield, Ida. He was united in marriage to Alma Geschke of Ritzville on August 26, 1907, by Pastor Wittrock in the Lutheran church. They continued to farm their land in Idaho for some years, then leased the land and were residents of Ritzville for about 12 years. While here they were members of the Lutheran church. They then moved to Long Beach, Calif. He is survived his wife Alma, at the home; one daughter, Clara Suydam at Olympia; four grandchildren, five great grandchildren; a brother, Richard F. Dehnel and a sister, Alvina Pfannekuchen, Ritzville. A brother, Albert G. Dehnel, is deceased. Burial was at Long Beach. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, December 30, 1965 Anna Kanzler Funeral Held on Wednesday Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Elizabeth Kanzler were held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. from the chapel of the Danekas Funeral home with the Rev. F. J. Ahrendt of Spokane officiating. Mrs. Kanzler died December 26 in Holy Family hospital in Spokane. Her home for the past 20 years had been at Colbert and prior to that was in Ritzville. She came to the United States in 1909 from Kolb, Russia. She was 74. She is survived by his husband, John Kanzler at Colbert, one daughter and three sons. Mrs. C. C. Earley of Rosalia survives as do Norman Kanzler of Colbert and Aaron and Lawrence Kanzler of Spokane. There are seven grandchildren. She was a member of Ritzville's Zion Congregational church. Pallbearers were Jake Hoefel, William Rosenoff, Calvin Moesle, S. E. Edwards, John Miller and Virgil Meyer. Interment was in Ritzville Memorial cemetery. S. Greenwalt Services Set at Emanuel Funeral services for Mrs. Sophia Greenwalt will be held at 1:30 p.m. today (Thursday) at Emanuel Lutheran church. Mrs. Greenwalt died at the age of 87 on Sunday at the Adams County Memorial hospital. Born Sophia Trautman, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pete Trautman, in Worms, South Russia, August 18, 1878. She was married to John W. Greenwalt June 4, 1906, at the Menno church. Mr. Greenwalt succumbed July 26, 1942. She is survived by two sons, John and Pete Greenwalt of Ritzville, and two daughters, Mrs. Yetta Melcher and Mrs. Emma Bischoff. Three brothers, George Trautman of Warden, Adam Trautman of Yakima and Jake Trautman of Warden, and one sister, Alvina Roth of Fairfield, survive as do 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A son, Arthur, preceded her in death in 1940. She was a member of Emanuel Lutheran church. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Roy T. Johnson of Lind. Burial will be in the Odessa cemetery with Ronnie Greenwalt, Raymond Greenwalt, Dennis Greenwalt, Arthur Greenwalt, Gordon Melcher and Norman Bischoff acting as pallbearers. Danekas Funeral home is in charge. Miss Schragg Funeral Set for Friday Funeral services for Miss Carrie B. Schragg will be held Friday at 2 p.m. from the chapel of the Danekas Funeral home. Miss Schragg died at Adams County Memorial hospital Tuesday, December 28. The family has requested that her age not be divulged. She came to Ritzville from Eugene, Ore., after having been born in South Dakota. She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal church, a charter member of the Ritzville State bank as assistant cashier, a member of the Ritzville chamber of commerce and for more than 40 years a treasurer of the Adams County Red Cross. She is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Amelia Kauffman of Monroe, Mrs. Lavine Faucher of Salem, Ore., and Mrs. Rose Rowe and Miss Laura Schragg of Spokane. The Rev. Bruce MacHenry will officiate at the funeral.
