Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, October 27, 1966 Jack Klee Dies at Kennewick John J. (Jack) Klee, 69, of Kennewick, formerly of Walla Walla and Ritzville, died in Kennewick Thursday. Klee was born February 24, 1897, in Ritzville and spent his childhood and early adult life in Ritzville. He was better known in this area as Jack Kleinknecht, having changed his name later in life. An active Boy Scouter, he was a holder of the Silver Beaver award. He was a veteran of World War I. He is survived by one son, Arvor R. Klee of Kennewick; two sisters, Mrs. Lydia Friske of Walla Walla and Mrs. Aurelia Oglesbee of Spokane; and one brother, C. E. Klee of Sacramento, Calif. He also is survived by four grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. and Mrs. George Becker, jr., and Walter Sauer of Ritzville and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Iltz of Odessa attended the funeral on Monday. Carl W. Lederer Last Rites are Held Wednesday Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Danekas chapel for Carl William Lederer. He died Monday at the Adams County Memorial hospital at the age of 84. He was born January 28, 1882, in Germany. He came to the United States 55 years ago and has made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Ted Wellsandt for many years. Surviving are two nieces and three nephews. The nieces are Mrs. Theodore Rude of Santa Barbara, Calif.; and Mrs. Mina Weise of Loring, Mont. The nephews are Fred Boekel and Charles Boekel of Rathdrum, Ida., and William A. Boekel of Santa Barbara. The Rev. Floyd Yokers conducted the funeral service. Linda Howell sang "I Come to the Garden Alone" and "Nearer My God to Thee." Her accompanist was Mrs. Orville Moeller. Cremation followed and interment was made in the cemetery at Rathdrum. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, November 3, 1966 Adams Pioneer Is Laid To Rest Near Portland Mrs. Augusta Richter, an early settler in Adams county, died at her home in Portland, Ore., October 26. She was 89 years of age. Mrs. Richter is survived by four daughters, Mary Ross and Helen Lawton, both of Washtucna; Elizabeth Huntman, Kings Beach, Calif.; and Clara Hulett of Ocean Park. There are 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren surviving, as well as nieces and nephews. Augusta Schmitt Richter was born in Bruckenau (Bavaria), Germany, on March 7, 1877. When she was 18 she came to the United States with her brother Edward Schmitt. She came west with two uncles and took up a homestead near Washtucna. On February 7, 1900, she and Joseph Frank Richter were married at Sprague. They lived near Washtucna for many years and later moved to Mt. Angel, Ore. Her husband preceded her in death on February 17, 1933. Rosary was recited Friday evening at the Hennessey Goetche-McGee funeral home in Portland. Requim mass was held Saturday at St. Mary's cathedral in Portland. Burial was at Mt. Calvary cemetery near Portland. The pallbearers were Charles Schmitt, Grandview; Leo Schmitt, Yakima; Larry Hinchen, Centralia; Richard Lawton, Ritzville; Frank Ott III, Monahans, Tex.; George Stubblefield, McMinnville, Ore.; Jim Scroggins, Portland; and Lawrence Lawton, Washtucna. Funeral Held Here Tuesday for John Heil Funeral services were held Tuesday for John Gerhard Heil of Lind. He died Saturday at Adams County Memorial hospital after a confinement of only one day. Heil was born August 13, 1901, at Marathon, Wisc. He had been an Adams county farmer for 49 years. His wife Anna survives at the home. A daughter, Mrs. Hazel Voth, lives at Moundridge, Kan. Howard Heil of Lind is a son. Also surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Bernard Gleasner of Manitowac, Wisc., Mrs. Elizabeth Bartel of Green Bay, Wisc., Mrs. Joe Hack of Marathon, Wisc., and Mrs. Anna Bloom of Stetsonville, Wisc. A brother, Paul Heil, lives at Newport. There are four grandchildren surviving. Heil was a member of Zion Congregational church at Lind. The Rev. R. Kirschenmann of that church conducted the funeral service at Danekas funeral chapel. Mrs. Henry Franz sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Whispering Hope." Her organ accompanist was Mrs. Reinhold Sackmann. Burial was at Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Pallbearers were Al Zarndt, Hugh Crawford, Norman Kerr, William Sackmann, Henry Gerlock and Borth Bartholomew. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, November 10, 1966 Funeral Service of Philip Kramer Is Held Saturday Funeral services for Philip Kramer were held at the Chapel of the Danekas Funeral home Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ernest Sprenger officiating. Sacred selections were offered by Elmer Heimbigner, Dan Roloff, Carl Hoefel and Edwin Roloff, accompanied by Miss Kathy Rogel. Pallbearers were Clarence Schoessler, Henry Vostral, Martin Wolsborn, Lloyd Kinzel, Henry Borgens and William Eckhardt. Interment was at the Adams county line cemetery. Philip Kramer was born December 30, 1898, and died October 31, 1966, at El Paso, Tex., where he had lived the past 15 years. Surviving him are two sisters, Marie Kramer of Ritzville and Paulina Kramer of Seattle; three brothers, David of Ritzville, Arthur of Olympia and Ferdinand of Anacortes. Henry Gettman Funeral Held on November 3 Funeral services for Henry G. Gettman were conducted by Pastor Werner J. Fritz, November 3 at 2 p.m. from the Christ Lutheran church at Odessa. A military service was held at the Odessa cemetery by the American Legion post. The pallbearers were Gus Weber, John Kissler, H. P. Wacker, Dave Weber, Frank Groh and Fred Lenhart, all of Odessa. Henry Gettman, a pioneer resident of this area settled north of Odessa with his parents, George and Mary Gettman, at the age of nine after the long trip from Frank, Russia. He attended the early grades of school in Odessa. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I in France. He and Mollie Heimbigner were married in 1919 and the first several years of their life together lived in Odessa. Later they moved to a farm east of Odessa and in 1921 bought the Crab Creek ranch where he became a prominent Shorthorn breeder. Gettman was active in the American Legion, serving in the various offices of the post. At the time of his death, he was senior vice commander. He is survived by three children, Eldora Harland of Boise, Ida., Elmer Gettman of Ritzville and Alva Richardson of Odessa. Four grandchildren survive. Three brothers also survive him. They are George Gettman, sr., of Odessa, John Gettman of Wenatchee and Dave Gettman of Yakima. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, November 17, 1966 Mrs. F. Klettke Closes Long Life Here on Tuesday Funeral services for Mrs. Friederika Klettke will be held at Philadelphia Congregational church at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. She was born November 27, 1878, in Russia. Her death took place Tuesday at the Adams County Memorial hospital after an extended illness there and at Hillcrest manor. Mrs. Klettke had been in this country for 63 years. After life on a wheat farm for many years she moved to Ritzville about 38 years ago. Five sons and four daughters survive her. The daughters are Mrs. Anna Sackmann of Lind, Mrs. Marie Thiel of Ritzville, Mrs. Hulda Cain of Chula Vista, Calif., and Mrs. Edna Sherman of Walla Walla. The sons are John and Gus of Ritzville, Robert of Priest River, Ida., Albert of Warden and Alvin of Ritzville. There are 15 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. The Rev. Ernest Sprenger will conduct the funeral service. Interment will be in the Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Infant Rite To be Today Graveside services will be held this morning at 10 o'clock for Bradley Kennedy. He was born October 30 at Yakima and died Monday at the University of Washington hospital in Seattle. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Kennedy who live at the Jake Harder ranch. Survivors besides his parents, are three brothers, Billy Joe, Chris and David. Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Lewis M. Kennedy of Yakima. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Janisch of Sunnyside. The Rev. Walter Abel will conduct the graveside service. Burial will be in the Ritzville cemetery. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, November 24, 1966 Prairie Graveyard Rites Are Given James M. Kelsey HATTON - Funeral services were conducted Thursday morning at the Jerue Funeral home chapel in Cheney for James Milton Kelsey, 86, who died at the Cheney nursing home November 14 of heart failure. Milt, as he was known, was born March 7, 1880, to James M. and Ella Kelsey in Marysville, Calif. While still a youngster he came with his parents to Michigan Prairie and lived on their homestead place. After the death of his wife, Kelsey and daughter, his mother and sister moved to Cheney in 1922. The place was then leased to Jesse Frantz. Kelsey was affiliated with the Methodist church in Cheney. Surviving are his daguther, Mrs. Joe (Evelyn) Gaskell of Bremerton, a sister, Miss Madeliene Kelsey of Cheney, and four grandchildren, Virginia, Jeanine, David and John Gaskell of Bremerton. Arrangements were in charge of Jerue Funeral home. Of interest to area resident is the fact that the father of the deceased, James M. Kelsey, donated the acre of land where the Michigan Prairie cemetery now is. The senior Kelsey was the first person buried there. Funeral of Mrs. Klettke Held Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at Philadelphia Congregational church for Mrs. Friederika Klettke. She died November 15 at Adams County Memorial hospital. The Rev. Ernest Sprenger conducted the service. A duet, Elmer Heimbigner and Mrs. Elaine Hille sang "In The Garden" and "Beyond the Sunset." Their organ accompanist was Anita Benzel. Pallbearers were Elmer Sackmann, Norman Sackmann, Gerald Klettke, Milton Klettke, Donald Peters and Gerald Oestreich. Interment was at Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, December 1, 1966 Roy Rogers Rites Are Held At Walla Walla Roy V. Rogers, an early Adams county pioneer, died November 23 in Walla Walla. He was born at New Hartford, Ill., May 25, 1881. In 1888 he moved with his parents to Rattlesnake Flats near Washtucna. On July 15, 1903, he and Ethel Lucy were united in marriage and soon after began farming and continued in this work until he and his wife moved to Walla Walla in 1956. Memorial services were held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Colonial Funeral home in Walla Walla with the Rev. Jasper C. Havens of the Central Christian church officiating. Burial was at the Masonic cemetery at Walla Walla. Pallbearers were Floyd Cameron, Amos Allen, Roger Thordarson, Keith Rogers, Ivan Graham and Clarence Anderson. Surviving are his wife Ethel at the home in Walla Walla, and two sons, Howard of Washtucna and Louis of Walla Walla; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Sielaff Rite Held in Burns, Oregon Funeral services were conducted Tuesday in Burns, Ore., for Max Sielaff, who died there Saturday. Sielaff is survived by two brothers, Ernest of Burns, Ore., and August of Ritzville. Mrs. Schroeder Dies Suddenly Last Saturday Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 o'clock for Alvena Mabel Schroeder. The Rev. Floyd Yokers conducted the service at Emanuel Lutheran church. Mrs. Schroeder died suddenly Saturday at Adams County Memorial hospital after only one day's confinement there. Surviving at home on Ritzville rural route are her husband, Aaron, and two sons, Dewayne and Larry Schroeder. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Ralph Hargreave of Spokane, and three brothers, Ernest Stockman of Spokane and Dick and William Stockman of Ritzville. Mrs. Schroeder was a member of Emanuel Lutheran church. Dr. Bruce Hille sang "Rock of Ages" and "The Old Rugged Cross" during the funeral service. Mrs. Orville Moeller was his organ accompanist. Pallbearers were Lester Buscher, John Buscher, Fred Buscher, Arthur Deking and Edward Deking. Interment was in the Lutheran cemetery. Martha Johnson Funeral Service is Held Monday Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for Mrs. John (Martha Ellen) Johnson, 86, from the Chapel of the Danekas Funeral home with the Rev. Floyd Yokers officiating. Mrs. Johnson was born October 1, 1880, in Groveland Township, Ill. She came to Adams county in 1888 with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allen J. Savage and they farmed near Paha, nine miles from Ritzville until July 3, 1915, when she was married to John P. Johnson who preceded her in death in December 1964. Later Mrs. Johnson moved to Spokane where she lived with her daughter, Mrs. William Mulkey. She died at Rosewood Manor Thursday, November 24, following a year of illness. She was a member of the Rebekah lodge and of the Emanuel Lutheran church in Ritzville. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Mary Ellen Mulkey and four grandchildren. Interment was at the Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Richard Dehnel Funeral Service Is Held Saturday Richard Dehnel died November 23 at Adams County Memorial hospital. He had been at the hospital for two months. He was born May 20, 1885, in Wausau county, Wisconsin. He had been a resident of Adams county for 66 years and was a retired wheat farmer. He is survived by his wife Martha at the home, 105 West Fourth; and by a sisters, Mrs. Alvena Pfannekuchen. There are numerous nieces and nephews surviving. Dehnel was a member of Emanuel Lutheran church and of Marcellus Grange. Services were conducted Saturday at Emanuel Lutheran church with the Rev. Floyd Yokers in charge. Dr. Bruce Hille sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Asleep in Jesus." His accompanist was Mrs. Orville Moeller. Pallbearers were Lester Pfannekuchen, Edwin Dehnel, Harold Manke, Dennis Wellsandt, Albert Manke and Earl Coylar. Honorary pallbearers were Paul Meyer, Ben Snyder, Al Schweer, Edward Cross, Paul Teske, Herman Schwisow, George Burkhalter, Walter Johnson, John Wellsandt, Herbert Beckley and George Freese. Concluding services and interment were conducted at the Lutheran cemetery here. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, December 8, 1966 Melvin Helme Rites Friday Family services for Melvin Eugene Helme will be conducted at the chapel of Danekas Funeral home at 10 a.m. Friday. Helme died December 4 while visiting at Long Beach, Calif. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 at the Washtucna cemetery. He was born June 29, 1923. He is survived by a son, Paul Gene of Washtucna; and by his mother, Mrs. Bessie Helme, also of Washtucna. Two sisters survive, Mrs. Renee Franks of Spokane and Mrs. Louise Kinch of Washtucna. There are four brothers surviving. They are Roy Elliott of Wicks, Ariz., Cecil Elliott of Odgen, Utah, Robert Elliott of Seattle and Martin Elliott of Ritzville. An aunt, Mrs. Laura Hilton, also survives. The body of the deceased was flown here from California Tuesday night. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, December 15, 1966 Connie Ferderer Dies Tuesday Miss Connie Ferderer died Tuesday night at Spokane. She had undergone open heart surgery on December 6. She was the daughter of Mrs. William Ferderer of Odessa. Friends in Odessa and Ritzville gave blood which was needed for the operation. Earlier this week, in fact, she had been expecting to leave the hospital either Thursday or Friday. Requiem Mass Said for Fred John Meise Fred John Meise died suddenly Sunday morning at Adams County Memorial hospital here. He had been a patient at the hospital since Tuesday of last week. Requiem mass was said at St. Agnes Catholic church at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning. Holy rosary was recited Tuesday evening at the chapel of the Danekas Funeral home with the Rev. Walter Abel conducting each service. Fred John Meise was born September 16, 1918, at Quincy, Ill. He was a mechanic for Farmers Supply. Surviving are his wife Marian at home and two daughters, Cinday Marie and Julie Ann, both at home. His mother, Mrs. Alvina Meise, lives at Benge. Three sisters survive, Mrs. Otto Zeller of Ritzville, Mrs. Bernie Sullivan of Washtucna, and Mrs. Russell Johnson of Burbank. Three brothers also survive, Harold of Benge, Earl of Odessa and Tom of Washtucna. There are numerous nieces and nephews. Meise enlisted in the U.S. army on April 20, 1942. He was a communications chief, serving in the Normandy campaign, as well as the European, Africa and Middle east campaigns for each of which he has ribbons. He was awarded two bronze stars and the purple heart. He received his discharge from service on March 21, 1945. Pallbearers at the funeral were Howard Ragsdale, Earl Wells, Raymond Schoessler, Ray Adams, Phil Whitman and Alfred Kent. Honorary pallbearers were Ray Telecky and Keith Connell. Interment was at Ritzville Memorial cemetery where members of the American Legion had charge of graveside rites. Richard Kinzel Services Held Tuesday Morning Funeral services for Richard Kinzel were held at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning at the chapel of Danekas Funeral home here. He died at the veterans hospital in Spokane Thursday of last week. He had been there only a short time. Richard John Kinzel was born October 17, 1917, at Ritzville. He served in World War II from August of 1942 to September of 1945 as a private in the 510th Bomb squadron, U. S. Army in England. He was a farmer north of Ritzville near the Lincoln county line. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Eddie Franson of Spokane and Mrs. Irene Wilson of Ritzville; and a brother, Walt Kinzel of Ritzville. The Rev. Floyd Yokers conducted the funeral. Members of C. J. Newland post of the American Legion acted as pallbearers. They also conducted graveside services at the Lutheran cemetery where interment was made. Opal Barnes Funeral Held at Lind Monday Funeral services for Mrs. Opal E. Barnes were held at the Lind Methodist church Monday afternoon. She died suddenly December 8 at a Spokane hospital. She had quite recently retired as a bookkeeper at Union Elevator Co., in Lind. She was born August 23, 1899, the daughter of James Franklin Alberty and Sarah Elizabeth Elliott. She had lived in the Lind community for 66 years. Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Vernon Hills of Spokane. A son, Finley, preceded his mother in death in 1938. Her husband, Ernest James Barnes, died in 1953. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Irma Snead of Lind and Mrs. Earl Anderson of Ellensburg; and a brother, J. S. Alberty of Spokane. There are six grandchildren surviving. The deceased was a member of the Methodist church of Lind. The Rev. Roger Johnson and the Rev. W. H. Ritchey conducted the funeral service. Mrs. Henry Franz sang two vocal selections, "Oh God Our Help in Ages Past" and "I Know Not What the Future Hath." Her accompanist at the organ was Mrs. Arthur Franz. Pallbearers were George Hougen, J. D. Urquhart, Edwin Jeske, Harry E. Snead, J. S. Snead and Henry Jansen. Burial was in the Lind cemetery. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, December 22, 1966 Dora Leonard Services Set at 1:30 today Funeral services for Mrs. Dora Leonard will be held today at 1:30 at the chapel of Danekas Funeral home. She died December 19 at Hillcrest manor where she had lived for three and a half months. Mrs. Leonard was born in Pike county, Illinois, on March 15, 1878. She had been a resident of Adams county for 78 years. She and her husband, Otis Leonard, farmed the place her husband's father, Gideon Leonard, had homesteaded in 1888 in the Rattlesnake Flats district. In 1919 they moved to Washtucna, living there until 1927 when Leonard bought the O. H. Greene home in Ritzville. Mrs. Leonard had lived here since then. Her husband preceded her in death in 1929. She was a member of the Christian church at Washtucna. Three daughters survive. They are Mrs. Virgil Sitton of Washtucna, Mrs. Edward Kinzel of Reno, Nev., and Margaret Leonard of Ritzville. Five sons survive, Raymond of Ralston, Carl of Loveland, Colo., Dean and Robert of Buckley and Howard of Ritzville. There are 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Three other children preceded their mother in death. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard were married on Christmas day, 1895 at the First Congregational church, then located on a site where a hospital later stood and where the office belonging to Dr. Charles G. Smick now stands. The Rev. John Lockwood performed the wedding ceremony. The Rev. Ralph Smith of the Community church, Washtucna, will conduct the funeral service. Milton Sackmann will sing "In The Garden" and "No Night There." Mrs. Orville Moeller will be his organ accompanist. Concluding services and burial are to be in the Bemis cemetery about six miles from Ralston. Pallbearers will be Robert Sitton, Bennie Sitton, Charles Leonard, Willard Leonard, Rollin Smith and Lloyd Spring. Mrs. Schnurbusch Former Resident Dies in Portland Funeral services for Mrs. Walter (Martha) Schnurbusch were held December 21 in Portland, Ore. Martha Bauer Schnurbusch was born January 8, 1895, in Ritzville, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bauer, pioneer residents of Adams county. She and Walter Schnurbusch were married in Ritzville. They made their home here for a few years. Later they moved to Portland where they lived for more than 40 years. Surviving the deceased are her husband at home, and a daughter, Mrs. Fred (Marian) Baumann of Portland. There are three grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Otto (Flora) Walser of Bellingham and Mrs. Everett Goode of Portland. Mrs. Johnson's Uncle, Rev. Fales Expires HATTON - Mrs. Harold Johnson received a long distance message Sunday that her uncle, the Rev. Avery L. Fales, had died of a stroke Saturday evening at Rosewell, N. Mex. The Rev. Mr. Fales would have been 99 years old next June and had been very well until a couple of years ago. He kept active and spent a lot of time preaching to the convicts at Roswell, where he lived for 50 years. Ritzville Journal-Times, Thursday, December 29, 1966 Connie Ferderer Funeral Service Held in Odessa Funeral services for Connie Irene Ferderer, 15, were held at Zion Emmanuel Lutheran church in Odessa on December 17 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Elmer Wenzel officiating. She had undergone open heart surgery on December 6 and was making a rapid recovery and was to be discharged on the following Wednesday when she became suddenly ill and passed away minutes later. She was a member of the Odessa high school sophomore class. Musical selections sung at the service by Mrs. Dorothy Gies and Mrs. Donna Schafer were "What a Friend We Have In Jesus" and "The 23rd Pslam." They were accompanied by Mrs. Eileen Tanke at the organ. She is survived by her mother, one brother, Ron, and two sisters, Carol and Susan. Pallbearers were George Kramer, Merrol Ferderer, Roger Smith, Randy Rushmeier, James Miller and Darryl Sackmann. Interment was at the Odessa cemetery under the direction of the Strate Funeral home. Funeral Is Held for Mrs. Havens Mrs. Mazie Marie Havens of Spokane, formerly of Washtucna, died November 13. Funeral services were held November 18 at the Alwin chapel of the Hennessey Funeral home in Spokane with the Rev. Philip F. Adams officiating. She is survived by her husband, T/Sgt. Robert S. Havens, sr., at the home, and a son, Robert, also at the home. She was the daughter of Mrs. Verda Bisson of Hillcrest Manor; the sister of Mrs. Willard Ruth of St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. Mabel Fritz of California, Max Bisson of Santa Ana, Calif., Donald Bisson of Kalama, Eugene Bisson and Mike Bisson of Spokane, and Pete Bisson of Reardan. Frank R. West Funeral Service This Morning The Rev. Ralph Smith of Washtucna will officiate at funeral services for Frank R. West this (Thursday) morning at 10:30 at the chapel of the Danekas Funeral home. West died of a heart attack December 23 at Big Bend Bowl in Ritzville. He was 79. He was born October 18, 1887, in Illinois and came to Adams county in 1904. The following year he was married to Miss Addy Leonard who preceded him in death in 1935. A daughter and two infant sons also preceded their father in death. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Harry (Evelyn) Womack of Ritzville and two sons, Everett of Palouse and Frank R., jr., of Washtucna. Six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren survive. Mr. West also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Nettie Sitton of Washtucna, and Mrs. Mary Pence of Spokane. He had been retired for many years and previously farmed in the Washtucna area. He was a member of the Ritzville Lions, Rimrock Grange at Washtucna and the Christian church of Washtucna. At the services Dr. Bruce Hille will sing "In The Garden" and "Shadow." He will be accompanied by Mrs. Orville Moeller. Pallbearers will be James Kadlec, Larry Benzel, Chet Bell, Rod Kinch, Levein Schroeder and Lester Snyder. Burial will be made in the Washtucna cemetery. Requiem Mass Is Said Here for Phillippay Requiem mass was said by the Rev. Walter F. Abel in St. Agnes Catholic church for Arthur F. Phillippay, 88, who died December 23 in Adams County Memorial hospital. Phillippay was a long-time resident of Kahlotus and served several terms as its mayor. He was born in Lone Pine, Calif., March 7, 1878, and came to the Kahlotus area with his parents in 1886. In 1905 he was married to Miss Minola Hauschild, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Hauschild of Ritzville. Her parents donated the land on which the Ritzville city park and the high school are built. Mrs. Phillippay survives at the home. Other survivors include two daughters, Josephine M. Gordon of Anchorage, Alaska, and Cecile Owens of Spokane. Three sons, Rodney B. Phillippay of San Carlos, Calif.; Eugene A. Phillappay of Portland, Ore., and Victor Phillippay of West Covina, Calif., survive as do 13 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Robert Braddoch, Joe Robbins, Wayne Campbell, Raymond Hunt, Roderick Ross and Ted Beshner. Honorary pallbearers were John Schinek, John Rice, R. C. Watson, Roy McCall, James Stevens, Howard Cannon and Oren Herron. Interment was made at the Dessert Lawn Memorial cemetery in Kennewick with the Danekas Funeral home of Ritzville in charge. Burial Service Held for Sheeks Interment services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at Ritzville Memorial cemetery for Lloyd Sheeks who died of a heart attack at the Star hotel in Ritzville December 22. The Rev. Beryl Melcher of Zion Congregational church officiated and Danekas Funeral home was in charge of arrangements. Little obituary information was available to the Journal- Times. It is believed Mr. Sheeks has a surviving sister in California. He moved to Ritzville from Lind during the past year. Mrs. Carr Rite Held Tuesday from Chapel Funeral services were held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. for Mrs. Mary Etta Carr, 75, at the chapel of the Danekas Funeral home with Bishop Dake K. Payne of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints officiating. Mrs. Carr died in Ritzville December 22. Born December 15, 1891, Mrs. Carr had made her home in Ritzville for the past three years. She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Sidney Shaver of Ritzville, Mrs. Robert Pruitt of Portland, Ore., Mrs. J. C. Bramlette of Hanford, Calif., and Mrs. Lee Howe of Vancouver. Six sons, Floyd V. Clark of Portland, Ore., Glenn L. Clark of Port Orford, Ore., Nathan N. Carr of Pasco, Harley Carr of Atlanta, Ga., Oliver K. Carr of Natchez, Miss., and Milo M. Carr of Vancouver also survive as do 42 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. At the funeral rites, the invocation was given by F. Rexal Rodeback. The speaker was Clyde DeGraff and the benediction was pronounced by Richard L. Cox. Mrs. Carr was interred in Ritzville Memorial cemetery following the dedication of the grave by Bishop Payne. Pallbearers were Winston Reimers, Gideon Bentz, John Arnst, Everett Kiehn, Art Hirning and Ray Rummer. Relatives Attend Williams Funeral HATTON - Mr. and Mrs. Jack Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lamson, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Williams and Mrs. Zelma Williams attended the funeral service for Bryan F. Williams at the Alwin Chapel of Hazen & Jaeger Funeral home in Spokane last Wednesday. Interment was in the Spokane Memorial gardens. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. L. W. Swannack of Sprague, and a brother-in-law of Mrs. N. J. Williams and Mrs. Zelma (Charles) Williams. Mr. Williams had attended church services Sunday morning, December 18, and upon reaching home started feeling ill. The ambulance was called and he died of a heart attack before reaching the hospital. Mrs. Suchland Funeral Set Friday at Lind Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. from the Lind Assembly of God church for Mrs. Louise Suchland. Mrs. Suchland passed away Monday in Spokane at the Rosewood Manor.
