MT. OLIVET CEMETERY CHELAN, CHELAN CO, WASHINGTON T27N R23E Section 7. ************************************************ Copyright. All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************ Transcribed and submitted by Teresa Sandum, September 9, 1999. This is a complete file of known burials, total records 60. Updated November 17, 2006. Mt. Olivet Cemetery was once located on Hwy 97 Alt in the vicinity of the newly built Wal-Mart. There are no records for this cemetery; information was gathered from headstones inscriptions, newspaper articles, sexton records, obituaries beginning in 1891 and the Higgins Mortuary books dating 1900 - 1943. This cemetery was the first real cemetery for the Chelan area. From what I could locate the burials began in 1892 until 1908. On May 28, 1901, the Mt. Olivet Cemetery Association was formed and became incorporated on September 3, 1903. The disinterring of Mt. Olivet Cemetery to the Fraternal Cemetery began in 1902 with the completion in 1958. In July 1961, the last few remaining headstones were taken to the Fraternal Cemetery. In early years, multiple fires had passed over the cemetery burning many of the original wooden crosses, leaving graves unmarked. As a result, it made it difficult in identifying who was being disinterred. A publication is available containing additional information regarding the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Fraternal Cemetery, Riverview Cemetery, and the Wapato Point Cemetery, Chelan Valley Cemeteries 1891 - 2000.
