During his residence in this county he took an active interest in public affairs. In 1884 he was elected probate judge of this county, a position he filled very creditably. In the management of his Brook Farm Dairy, he took a deep, abiding interest, the product from which was famed over the Sound for the excellence of its quality, commanding a ready market at a higher price than obtained for any other brand. About three years ago he removed with his family to Seattle, where he proposed to spend the remainder of his days in peace, comfort and quiet, removed from the scene of the triumphs of his earlier manhood, and had just completed an attractive cottage on Queen Anne Hill, when stricken with that dread malady, apoplexy, to the fatal effects of which he finally succumbed at the age of 69 years. He leaves a wife, six daughters: Mrs. George Kelly, of Seattle; Mrs. William Delanty and Mrs. Geo. Cooper of Port Discovery; Mrs. Allen Weir, of Olympia; Mrs. W.B. Seymore, of Port Washington; and Mrs. Edward Von Tobel, of Seattle. A man of strong personality, positive convictions, high integrity, he was universally respected by those with whom he came in contact, and will be mourned by many friends, who extend sympathy to the sorrowing family in the loss of an affectionate husband and a kind, considerate father.
