Information on the Slip Point Indian Burial Ground transcribed and submitted by Jean Coston August 2003. Both above notices must remain when copied or downloaded. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Recently I spent time in Sekiu and Clallam Bay, Calallam County area that gave me time to do research on cemeteries in the area. A few questions to a store clerk sent me to a long time citizen of the Clallam Bay community. Mr. Newsum Baker was a delight to meet and was full of information. His instructions about the Slip Point Indian burial ground is as follows. Mr. Baker told me to go out Frontier Street from main section of downtown Calallam Bay which is also State Route 112. I would find it on the grounds of what is now the Clallam County Sheriff's office and home.(see newspaper Forks Form dated August 13, 2003) Before the Deputy Sheriff moved in, the house was owned by the U. S. Coast Guard and there was a light on the point. The light is gone now and a buoy is located off the point. In the well kept yard, on the north side of the large house, is a large dip or depression in the lawn. This could be the location. Without a shovel or other tools it's hard to really be sure.
