F.B.Barnes reports the sale of Chas.McKever's house and lot near the Commercial Hotel toMrs Lyda Bartow. Miss Self,assistant superintendent of the Washougal school came home Friday and reports being well pleased with her school there. George Self,who is now traveling for a Portland wholesale house,was here Thursday, and shipped his household goods to Vancouver. Thos.Harlan,an 85 year old politician will adress the voters at McKever's hall this evening in the interest of the democratic ticket.Mr.Harlan formerly published a paper at White Salmon andis nor contemplating starting one at Vancouver. in 1900 he stumped the country for Bryan and in 1904 supported the republicans,but this year finds him back to democracy.He is one of the founders of the Republican party. The suit of D.T.Allyn against this city,in which th eplaintiff asks for $11,000 for alleged damages for falling from a walk in this city last January,has been set for October 23. It is a hoodoo date,but whether it is skiddoo for Mr.Allyn or the city of LaCamas remains to be seen. E.M.Scanlon is attorney and city attorney Yates will look after the interests of the city. E.M.Haley has decided to discontinue his business here. The stock has not yet been disposed of,and Mr.Haley has not yet decided what he will do. Gene Van Gordon,well known here, was last Saturday sentenced to four months in jail at Vancouver for stealing a suit of clothes,a pistol and some other articles. he pleaded guilty,and it is said that he was demented when eh committed the act. The theft occured two months ago,but the authorities wer enot able to apprehend him until last week,although he has been in this county most of the time,visiting at Camas,Washougal and Vancouver at intervals. A.J.Laws,a pioneer of the Northwest,and an old Indian fighter,was here this week visiting his son,I.S.Laws,near town. Mr.Laws formerly lived here,but for a year or two has been visiting at various places in this stae and Oregon. For years he has been working to have the state recognize the Indian war veterans by paying them for the actual time they spent in fighting the Indians.he fired the first shot and killed the first Indian in the war of 1855. A.L. Coffey of this place is president of the INdian war Veterans Association. He is a candidate for the legislature,and if elected will introduce a bill providing for th epayment of the old veterans for their actual service.
