Company J.E.Williams has brought suit against the Oregon Round Lumber Co. for damages.which he alleges were sustained through the carelessness of an employee or employees of the company. He asks for $32,500. He asks for $20,000 for bodily injury which consists of a loss of a leg and other injuries,$12,000 for damage to his earning capacity,and the rest is for medical attention,nurse hire,ect. Williams lost his leg here last November on the barge LaCamas.He was master of the barge and was laying at the wharf when the Diamond O,a steamer of the defendant company arrived with a load of oil.Williams claims he was requested to move to let the Diamond O. in,and he informed the captain,that he was alone and coudl not move without the assistance of the steamer.The steamer made fast to the barge,the plaintiff alleges,and started to move without giving a signal,with the result that Williams leg was caught in the stern line,which was to be made the head line when the barge was dropped down stream.The leg was cut nearly off,and amputation was necessary. The case will be tried in Portland before the Oregon cicuit court some time this fall.
