Pat Cahill,a local character,who has been here for some time,left Tuesday for Vancouver. W.Hill,who has been suffering from rheumatism,went to the hot springs at Skamania county,this week,with the hope of benefiting his health. Last Saturday A.E.Beagle advertised in the Post a small farm for sale,and made the sale Monday.It's printers ink that makes the world go round. Ed Tidland went to Pasco Wednesday,returning next day. A.E.Davis and daugher returned Thursday from a month's visit at Spokane. Mrs.J.L.Howard of Hood River and Mrs.E.L.Chase of Seattle are visiting at the home of M.T.Brown.Mrs.Chase is a sister to Mr.Brown,and Mrs.Howard was an intimate friend of the Browns in Nebraska. J.R.Hamilton,local agent for the S.P.&S.,reports that the operating department has sent out announcements of the service into Portland to begin on or about August a5. More trains will be put on then,and we shall have a much better service. City Attorney,Back of Vancouver has made a provision in a contract recently let to a construction company for street work that no foreign labor is to be employed,and residents of Clarke county are to be given the preference by the constructing company.
