Mr.Barnhill has bought him a fine team. Lillie Smead was a caller on the hill recently. accompanied by a friend from Portland. Mr.Spears is moving on the ranch he bought of R.E.Turk. Mr.Kenyon has gone to Pprtland on a business trip. Frank Snead and Charlie Davenport of Portland are visiting at the home of C.Smead. Ray Sampson is working on the night shift at teh prune dryer and sleeps in the day time. When he starts back to work at six he says good morning to everyone he meets. Frank Grout is getting treated to apple and pumpkin pies now days. He wishes it would be leap year for ten years straight. S.J.Petit from three aces of strawberries on his ranch near Orchards sold this summer $450 of berries. he realized this amount by selling to the cannery at Fishers at 4 cents a pound. He would have made more had he sold his berries by the box to individual customers, but this would have been almost impossible and very much more time wouldhave been spent in this way. He is well satisfied with the treatment he received from the canning company. Last spring he plantd and additional acre of strawberrie and from these plants he will take sets and plant 8 more. Now that he has a market near at hand he is going into the raising of strawberries on a large scale as he finds that it pays. He does not have to either irrigate or fertilize on his ranch, and th eberries he produced have twice the amount of sugar that is found in the Hood River berries.- Columbian File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/wa/clark/newspapers/mtpleasa167gnw.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/wafiles/ File size: 2.1 Kb
