Sunday morning, however, two of Rhode's sisters came from Portland, and explained to the Judge what the prisoner had refused to do,that he came here to take care of his mother, who has been sick, and that his trips to the woods were merely for recreation,he being very eccentric, and preferring his own company. The Judge was satisfied with the explanation and the sentence was suspended and the fine remitted.
