She joined the Baptist church when a girl, and later united with the Cumberland Presbyterian church, remaining an active member until her death.During the Civil War she endured many hardships, her husband being a Colonel in the Confederate Army, she was subjected to much cruel treatment by gorilla bands whose sole purpose was to rob,and who cared not for the great question involved. But her courage and fortitude carried her through until her husband was restored to her. While mentioning the dead it is not amiss to also speak for the living, and this notice would be incomplete were it not to mention the care that Mrs.Cowan received during the declining years fo her life. But few people receive the grateful treatment from their children which they deserve. The funeral was conducted by Rev.Carrick at the Presbyterian church Saturday afternoon, burial was in the Camas cemetery.
