He was eveidently demented as he had been acting very strange for some time. He had been dead nearly a week when found. The people in the vicinity had noticed the stench for several days and finally Andrew Quarnberg and William Trant made a systematic search and discovered the body. Letters from friends in Philadelphia and a certificate of deposit on the National Bank in Portland were found on his person.
