But alas it was true. In giving birth to a baby boy her own life was sacrificed,a lfe for a life. Mrs. Self's maiden name was Lavina Beatrice Davis."She was the youngest daughter of Mr.and Mrs.J.K.Davis residing on Kaufman Avenue,Vancouver,Wash., and was born in Oconto,Wis.,April 13,1881. When four years of age the family moved to Clear Lake Wis.,where they lived until she grew to womanhood. She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1899 and engaged in teaching school in the vicinity for several years. in 1904,the family removed to Vancouver,Wash.,and she continued her school work at Proebstel 1905,and LaCamas,1906, uniting with the Presbyterian church at the latte rplace. In 1906 and 1907 she filled a position in the Central High School of Tacoma. In June 1907 she was married to Geo.Self. For less than a year itwas hers to share as a bride the love and joy of a truly happy home, and no one can fathom the mystery why she could not continue in it as a mother. But such was not to be. Her father and mother,a sister,Mrs.R.S.Poage,and a brother Wildey, survive her. Not only does the husband and the family, but the Presbyterian church,o which she was a faithful member and efficient helper in the different societie, and the whole community feel the loss. The passing of one so noble,so talented, and so gentle makes the world poorer but heaven richer. Funeral service was held at the Presbyterian church Sunday afternoon conducted by the pastor,Rev.Carrick. The body was taken on the evening train to her old home in Vancouver,Wash. Another brief service as held Monday afternoon by Rev.H.S.Templeton and she was laid to rest in the Vancouver city cemetery. Scarcely ever has the heart of this community been so deeply touched, and to the extent sympathy can be extended to the bereft husband with his motherless child and the sorrowing relatives.
