All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/wa/wafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Sheron Faynor nitwittwin@hotmail.com July 24, 2008, 10:32 pm LaCamas Post August 1,1908 Soldier A Suicide Vancouver,July 29- Frank Weissgaber,a soldier who has been stationed at the barracks here for a number of years and was last spring granted a transfer from the Fourth to the First infantry to avois going with his regiment to the Phillipines,was found by Boss White early Monday morning hanging from a maple tree in the garrison reserve along the road which leads to the pumping station .He had evidently been dead but a few hours. He disappeared some ten days ago and it is now thought that he spent the time in the woods on the reservation and subsisted on berries.Those who knew him best say that they are not surprised,inasmuch as he had intimated several times that he contemplated ending his life.He was known to have been despondent for some time and had been drinking heavily and committing minor offenses such as sitting down while on guard duty,etc. He left no letter of explanation.
