Vernon I "Bud" Armstrong of Kalama died at home on May 31, 2006.

He was born on August 19, 1929 in Cashmere, Washington to the late Vernon and 
Leota (Hoffman) Armstrong.  A graduate of Washington State University in 
Mechanical Engineering and a member of Acacia fraternity, Bud continued at the 
University of Washington in Meteorology before serving four years during the 
Korean War forecasting weather as an Air Force weather officer, including three 
years in Japan.

Bud was with Owens-Corning Fiberglass Corporation for 31 years in Santa Clara, 
California and in Toledo, Ohio, retiring in 1987. He served on school boards in 
California and in Ohio and was active with his sons as a Little League coach 
and assistant scoutmaster.  After moving to Kalama in 1992, he resumed his 
interest in the cello, played in several community orchestras in the Portland 
area, and served as president of the Oregon Cello Society.  Other interests 
included golf, bicycling, camping and worldwide traveling.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gretchen; his four sons, Bret (Linda) 
of Tacoma, Cary (Patricia) of Portland, Dirk (Gwen) of Leesburg, VA and Eric 
(Vinnie)  of New York City; grandchildren Kristi, Jace, Shannon, Megan, Amanda 
and Clarissa; sister, Patricia Moody of David, AS; and by many nieces and 
nephews.

A private family memorial will be held.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a 
gift to the Oregon Cello Society Scholarship Fund, 22275 SW 110th Place, 
Tualatin, OR 97062
