He was born June 2, 1945 in Portland, Oregon to Glenn Christian and Elsie Ella (Vogel) Bauman, who preceded him in death. The Bauman family moved to Longview when Denny was 5 years old. He was the oldest of five children and was raised in a close and loving family. Denny is survived by his wife of 40 years, Merrilee; two sons, Jeff (Pam) Bauman and Brad (Heather) Bauman; grandsons, Eric and Alex Bauman; sister, Jeri (Henry) Reinke and Jane Cheshire; brothers, Mike (Marshia) Bauman and John Bauman; his father and mother-in-law, Wayne and Norma Kletsch; brother-in-law, Doug (Melody) Kletsch; nieces and nephews, Heidi Keimig, Derek Cheshire, Kyle (Darcy) Bauman, Nathan Bauman, Brandy (Chris) Bratten and Keith Bauman and other numerous relatives and cousins. Dennis attended local schools and graduated from RA Long in 1963. He attended LCC and joined the Air Force in 1966, serving as a weatherman until 1970. Denny then returned to college and graduated from Eastern Washington State College in 1972 with a double major in business and economics and a minor in geology. He went to work for Cowlitz PUD and then as a purchasing agent at Weyerhaeuser Company. In September of 1976, he opened the Woodshed Restaurant and Lounge which was family operated until 2001. Through the years, Denny was involved in many real estate and business ventures and currently owned the Washington Way Market and partnered with his brother Mike in Millers Market and Omelettes & More. He was an extremely hard worker who loved to create and was a true entrepreneur. Denny enjoyed stamp and coin collecting, geology, history, camping, fishing, trips to Reno and Las Vegas, golfing, the beach, and spending time with family and friends. He had a great sense of humor and was an outstanding, positive person who always found the good in everyone. Denny was a member of the Longview Country Club, the Longview Yacht Club, the Willow Grove Community Club, and a past member of the Longview Jaycees, Scoutmaster Boy Scout Commissioner, Kalama Chamber of Commerce, the Washington Restaurant Association, Diking District Commissioner and numerous other organizations. A Celebration of Denny's life will be held Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church, 2000 E. Kessler Blvd., Longview, WA. There will be an opportunity for fond remembrances of Denny. We honor Denny with fun, laughter, love, and taking the scenic route whenever possible.
