"Lou" was born Louise Marguerite Campbell in Springdale, Oregon, to parents Castner and Caroline on April 28, 1923. Her maternal grandparents had emigrated from Denmark and as a child she was a part of the Scandinavian community. Lou was very proud of her Danish heritage. Upon graduation from High School she and her sister, Doris, who were lifelong best friends, lived together in Portland. Lou worked at Meier and Frank, and then SP&S Railroad, where Doris met her husband-to-be, James. While in Portland, Lou developed a wonderful taste for clothing, especially from Charles F Berg. Some of her clothes from the 1940's were recently on display at a local fashion show. At a football game she met her future husband, Gary. After they married in 1949 she moved to his hometown of Longview. Gary and James became close friends and the two couples had great fun together. Susan Lynn was born in 1954 and from that point on Lou became a devoted mother. She taught Susan love, compassion and the value of family and friends. Lou was blessed to be a part of a close family who gathered together frequently at their Mother Caroline's home in Troutdale until her death in 1983. That tradition has carried on to the next generations where it is the same today - love and laughter at every occasion. In 2000, Lou and Sue bought a home together in Bend and in the process met Sue's future husband, Kurt. From the beginning, he regarded "The Bennett Girls" as a "package deal" and graciously included Lou in their new home. Louise was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gary; sister, Belle; and brother, Bud. In addition to Sue, Kurt, and Doris, her nieces and nephews, Keith, Karen, Janell and Michael and their children survive her. Lou was loved by all that knew her for being a good friend and listener and for her sense of humor. In lieu of donations, she would wish that in her memory you take a moment to tell those you love how much you cherish them. Graveside services will be held in Longview at Longview Memorial Cemetery on June 19th at 1:00 pm. A celebration of life will follow at Sue and Kurt's on June 25th at 1:00 pm. Later this summer, the family will picnic at her favorite spot near Big Rock on the Sandy River where she loved to swim as a child. Arrangements are under the direction of Niswonger Reynolds Funeral Home. "Thanks, Mommy, and God bless you. Love, Sue" File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/wa/cowlitz/obits/b/bennett608gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/wafiles/ File size: 3.2 Kb
