J. Stepp steppmom5@hotmail.com April 9, 2006, 4:31 pm Published in The Daily News from 11/3/2005 - 11/4/2005. Domingo was born in Abra, Philippines. He was the ninth child of Guillermo Bernardez and Teodocia Balleras Bernardez. He earned his medical degree in 1955 at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila. After graduation, he traveled to the United States to carry out internships in Houston and Minneapolis. Domingo met his wife of 42 years, Margaret (Dillon) in 1962, while a resident at Wallasey General Hospital in Liverpool. In 1963, they were married in Dublin, Ireland, where Margaret was born and raised. Together they moved to Port Laoghaise in Ireland for two years to begin raising a family. They subsequently moved to Saskatoon, Canada and later Spokane, Washington, before settling in Longview. Domingo greatly enjoyed the opportunity to practice medicine in Longview as a family practioner until his retirement in 1998 after 32 years of solo practice. His professional accomplishments included serving as the chief of staff of Cowlitz Hospital and election to active membership in the American Academy of Family Physicians. In addition to his profession, Domingo lived an active life devoted to his family, his religious beliefs and his community. Domingo and Margaret raised and educated three children and loved spending time with grandchildren. He was a devout Catholic and served on the St. Rose Parish Council during its early years. He also had a lifelong commitment to the Longview community, sitting on the board of Applied Industries for over 20 years. Those who knew Domingo will remember his passion for the game of tennis. He also enjoyed being a member of the Longview Filipino community. In the later stages of his life, Domingo was challenged by chronic illness, which he met with the traits those who loved him knew so well-charm, courage, discipline, and faith. Domingo is survived by his wife, Margaret; two sons, Stephen and Timothy; and a daughter, Alexandra. His grandchildren include, Stephen's son, Zachary and Timothy's daughters, Katie and Jennifer. He is also survived by his sister, Isadora Bernardez, and a large extended Filipino and Irish family. Vigil Services will be held Friday evening, November 4, 2005, 7pm, at St. Rose Catholic Church in Longview.
