Jim was born in Caledonia, Minnesota on the 3rd of June, 1916 to Harry and Lenore Callihan who preceded him in death. He viewed Betty's parents, Julius and Alma Bippes, as his second parents until their death. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty Pauline (Bippes) Callihan, his daughter Jean Kinue (James Morishima), two grand-children, Judith Centerwall (Brandon) and James Morishima (Michelle), two great grand-children, Meshia and Allen, a brother-in-law, Julius Bippes, a sister-in-law, Janet Lewis, and numerous nieces and nephews. After graduating from high school, Jim attended Eastern Washington College, the University of Montana, and the University of Washington where he finished his formal education with a master's degree in Opera Direction and Production. He was director of music at Lower Columbia College. He directed several musicals such as the King and I, Damn Yankees where he played the devil, Amahl and the Night Visitors, and Finian's Rainbow. He retired from Lower Columbia as director of personnel after three decades of service. He also directed the choir at Trinity Lutheran Church in the late 50s and early 60s. Jim was an avid trap shooter and won several championships including the Washington State Championship. He was chief of the Pacific Indians, an international organization of trap shooters, as well as a member of the Kiwanis and the Elks. He was also an active member of the Cowlitz Old Time Car Club and he always dreamed of owning a Duesenberg. Jim was a devoted and loving husband, an affectionate father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and a good and loyal friend. Services will be at 11:30 am on June 8 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Longview, WA. He will be interred at 3:00 pm at the Park Hill Cemetery in Vancouver, WA. Jim was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. The family suggests remembrances to the Church's TAME which provides rides to senior citizens and others.
