He was born on August 18, 1919 in Sacramento, California to Charles and Mae (Moshure) Comstock. He moved to Longview in 1923 before the town was named and graduated from R.A. Long High School in 1937. In 1954 he married Maxine (Cox) Comstock. John worked at Long Bell for many years where he became manager, bartended at the Longview Legion for over 20 years, worked for Pamsco and also had a realtor's license until he retired in 1984. John also served in the Army for almost 3 years where he earned the Asiatic Pacific Service medal, good conduct medal and the Victory medal. He was a member of the American Legion and Kelso Elks for over 40 years. John loved being with his family, camping, fishing and traveling. He spent the last 18 years with his partner in life Marlyce Erland, her five sons, and their families whom he loved very much. He will be forever in their hearts. He was a quiet man, but very loving and would do anything to help anyone in need. John was preceded in death by his wife Maxine Comstock in 1988, 2 brothers, Harold Comstock and Chuck Comstock, father, Charles Comstock, mother, Mae Moshure Comstock and daughter, Donna Wright. Survivors include his son, Wesley F. Comstock of Vancouver, Washington, granddaughter, RaeAnn McGahuey, also of Vancouver, Washington, granddaughter, Kelly Bump, Longview, Washington, 9 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren, special friend since high school, Wally Holden and special friends Vince & Carol Barber and LaVonne Zelko of Longview, Washington. A Memorial will take place at 3:30pm at the Columbia Funeral Home where Rev. Robert Giles will officiate. A reception will follow at the Longview Legion.
