Betty Jean Cummings, 82, of Kelso, passed away at home on April 30, 2006. 

She was born October 6, 1923, in Ophiem, Illinois, to John and Sarah Ransom. 
Betty graduated from Galesburg High School in 1941. She married Maurice 
Cummings on January 2, 1946, in San Pedro, California. 

Betty worked as a clerk for the Kelso School District from 1966 until retiring 
in 1988. Betty loved watching her husband compete in runs, knitting, and 
spending time with her grandchildren. Also, she enjoyed attending her 
grandchildren's sporting events and school programs as well as watching Kelso 
Hilander sports and the Mariners. Earlier in her life she was involved in 
P.T.A. and the Orthopedic Guild. 

Survivors include her husband, Maurice Cummings; sister, Velma Magoon of 
Galesburg, Illinois; one daughter, Maureen Harris (Steve) of Longview; two 
sons, Monte Cummings (Val) of Kelso and Van Cummings (Anita) of Clarkston, 
Washington; six grandchildren, Jana Wilson (Bill), Craig Harris, Nathan 
Cummings, Justin Cummings (Dena), Tate Cummings, and Zackary Cummings; and two 
great-grandchildren, Paige and Jaisa Wilson. 

A memorial service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2006, at Dahl-
McVicker Funeral Home. A private family interment will take place at Cowlitz 
View Memorial Gardens in Kelso, Washington. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart 
Association, 710 Second Ave., Suite 900, Seattle, WA 98104.
