He was born February 21, 1923 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota to George and Mabel B (Kessler) Edwards. He is survived by his wife Della, sons Ralph Edwards (Laurel) of Kelso, Bruce Edwards (Christy) of Longview, and daughter Laura Gray (Mark) of Kelso. He has 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 3 great, great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, William, Kenneth, Richard, and Roger, 3 sisters, Irene, Catherine and Eva. He parachuted into France on D-day with the 506 Parachute Infantry and was taken POW for about a year and was also decorated with the Purple Heart. After his discharge he met and married Delmerine "Della" Silvesan on January 14th, 1946 in Miles City, Montana. They moved to the Longview/Kelso area in 1948. He logged in the early years and then later went into the roofing business. He eventually started his own business "Edwards Industrial Coatings" until his early retirement in 1980. He couldn't sit still so he raised a few beef cattle and tinkered with tractors, bulldozers and trucks. He was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed clam digging, fishing, hunting and tinkering with his tractors and trucks. Daddy had a loud infectious laugh that could almost bring the house down. He had a good sense of humor and laughed easily. He also was very generous and helped many. Graveside services will take place at the Green Mountain Cemetery in Rainier, Oregon, Thursday January 26, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. Chaplain Lyle Prather will be officiating. Arrangements are being made through Columbia Funeral Home and viewing will be available on Wednesday from 9-5. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Home Health and Hospice.
