She was born August 15, 1927 in the bedroom of her grandmother Jackson's Castle Rock home, the only child of Lolita Beryl (Jackson) and Leone Holten. Joyce graduated from Castle Rock High School in 1945. In November of 1944, she had met Hugh Francisco, home on leave from duty in the South Pacific. They were married in Longview on June 2, 1945 by Reverend Gebert. She also completed the required training in 1945 and became a licensed beautician. In 1947 Joyce and her husband moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico where he was employed by the Atomic Energy Commission. They later moved to Spokane where they adopted two children, Connie and Scott. Hugh transferred from the AEC into the U.S. Customs Service and they moved back to Castle Rock in 1965 when he became assigned to the Customs Office in Longview. Joyce began losing her vision in 1964 due to Retinitus Pigmentosis and by 1968 was blind. In 1970, for something to do, Joyce purchased the Castle Rock Beauty Nook and ran it until 1985, assisting her operators and pin curling her mother's hair by feel. During those years she also did her housework and raised her two children. A beautiful woman, Joyce was liked by all and the friends she made were for life. She is survived by her husband of sixty years, Hugh, her daughter Connie, and several grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Scott. Due to her lifelong aversion to hospitals and funerals, there will be no services. Contributions in her name may be made to Longview Hospice.
