His wife of 65 years, Edith (Price), and children, Burnie Greenamyer and Cheryl Emert were at his side. His parents, Melvin E. and Mildred Greenamyer; and sister, Shirley Langdon predeceased him. Melvin has a daughter-in-law, Anita Greenamyer; three grandchildren, Erik Emert of Juneau, AK, Cindy Chapman of Vancouver, WA and Mark Greenamyer of Eugene, OR, plus five great grandsons, Brandon, Nicholas and Jordan Chapman, and Max and Mitch Greenamyer. Melvin was born in Tiger, WA and raised in the Longview/Kelso area. He was an avid sports fan and in younger years played both football and baseball. During WWII he served in the Navy and was stationed in Guam. He was a skillful craftsman who could build or repair anything. In the 1950s, he built his family a log cabin from family owned timber on the Toutle River; this was his favorite fly fishing destination. Following a 44 year career with Longview Fibre Co., he directed his efforts to designing and building a home on family property in Castle Rock. His favorite hobby was woodworking in his shop at home, a pastime that spanned his entire life and with skills that he passed on to his son Burnie. Melvin was a loving, honest, loyal, dedicated, skillful, hardworking man and a great role model for his children and grandchildren. Melvin and his wife Edith traveled far and wide for many years and he captured many memories on camera. He had a wonderful smile and will be remembered for his great sense of humor. A stroke in recent years curtailed most joke telling, however, he still loved a good story! His stories will be remembered by all who were close to him. He related many wonderful tales of growing up in the big logging era of Cowlitz County, fishing and logging with the aid of "real" horsepower. In retirement years he also became a ham radio operator and mastered some computer skills. He was a member of the Kelso Elks for 66 years and a past member of their RV group. Melvin loved and was loved by his wife, children, grandchildren, family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all. Melvin's memorial will be held at the Kelso Elks on Saturday, May 20, at 12 noon. Remembrances may be made to Community Home Health & Hospice in Longview. Cremation through Columbia Funeral Service has taken place.
