Edwin Hamilton Gygi was born on February 22, 1929 and passed away without pain or remorse on April 26, 2006. Born and raised in Elkhart, Indiana, he graduated from Concorde High School in 1947. He received his Bachelor's degree, and later his Master's degree in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University in 1956. Between the start and finish of his education, he served with great pride in the United States Army during the Korean War. Edwin was married in 1951 to Patricia Robbins, also from Elkhart. Together they moved to Longview, Washington in 1956, where he began his career with Weyerhaeuser, from where he would retire after 44 years of service. A sports car enthusiast who was never without a hot coupe during the second half of his life, he also enjoyed sailing and traveled extensively, with an eye out for historic sites. Edwin was a devout family man who enjoyed nothing more than spending time with and assisting his family. He is survived by his two sons, James and Thomas; daughter, Ann; and five grandchildren. His family and all those whose lives he touched shall miss him deeply. We love you, Father. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Olympia. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (www.vfw.org).
