He was born July 9, 1925, in Ellwood City, Pa., to Piercie Ray and Mary (Dalton) Hammersmith. He graduated from the University of Washington in 1951. Mr. Hammersmith served in the Navy Air Corps. He moved to the local area 42 years ago. He retired in 1983 from Amadon Forge and Machine Works where he served as a mechanical engineer and production manager. He married Lois Svendsen on Aug. 31, 1946, in Gary, Ind. She survives him. Also surviving are two daughters, Lorraine Sitton and Mary Jane Davis; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
