He was born in Chehalis, Washington on June 19, 1937.He entered the U.S. Navy in 1956 to 1960. The husband of Joann Salee Ganfield and father of 3 sons, Timothy Mark, Wesley Scott and Richard Lee Hamrick. All of Kalama, WA. His son Richard is deceased as of Feb.19, 2005, one year to date. Vern and Joann celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary the 8th of this month. They have lived in Kalama at 1303 China Garden Road for about 30 years . Vern was quite the "handy man"at home, he loved to "putter" and "build" in his shop out back of his house. He love to create mini combustion engines, and planned to enter his in the "Old Timers Historical Fair", in Matlock, WA. in May of this year. His latest was building a log splitter. Also he loved to fish and rock hunt, traveling in their motor home and camping by a lake. Before retirement, he worked at the Grain Elevators here in Kalama. Vern was always one to greet you with a big howdy and a smile. Vern was the eldest son of Elmer Wesley and Agnes Irene Gates Hamrick. His brothers surviving him are: Eldrid Sherman Hamrick of Orting, WA., Darrell Taft Hamrick of South Beach, OR., Elmer W. Hamrick Jr. and Jared Lee (Jerry) Hamrick of Kalama and one sister, Elwanda C. Sampson of Kalama. Two brothers who preceded him in death are Carlos Aaron and Edgar T. Hamrick. Vern has one grandson, Nicholas Mark Hamrick of Kelso. A Memorial Service date is not yet set, but will be at 1303 China Garden Rd. in Kalama. His friends and family are welcome. Our hearts mourn.
