She was the fourth child in a family of ten children. She moved to Kelso, WA in 1940 and in 1941 met and married Ralph Hendrick. They celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary 12/6/2005. They began their marriage with God at the center and never lost their focus. Their lives were deeply intertwined and filled with joy, humor and perseverance in the hard times. Their devotion to one another and unity guided them through the child raising years. To see Bernice was to see Ralph as well, as they were seldom apart. During the years they were in business, (Hendrick Electric), Bernice was the bookkeeper. In the years that followed she was an Avon Lady and did a variety of jobs including helping to paint a new church, and then settled into positions within the Kelso School District Cafeteria system. During her last few years of work, she was a baker for Kelso High School, retiring in 1985. Her priorities in life were: her faith, her husband, her children, and then her church. She taught Sunday School for may years and throughout her life, her faith never wavered. She lived an unselfish, hardworking life and inspired her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Though a quiet person, her sense of humor was well known to her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Ralph, daughters Sharon Parris and Shirley Vader and a son, Gary Hendrick. A daughter, Marjorie Ann preceded her in death, as did three of her siblings. Still living are brothers: Hilbert Steyer, Orville Steyer, Norman Steyer, Vernon Steyer and sisters: Cora Wegner, and Audrey Anderson. She has 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Viewing will be at Columbia Funeral Service, 1105 Maple St, Longview from 9 to 5 on Thursday, 1/26/06. Celebration of Life Service will be held at Rainier Assembly of God Church on Friday, 1/27/2006 at 1 PM. Memorial Contributions may be made in her memory to Community Home Health & Hospice, Box 2067, Longview, Washington 98632. Columbia Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.
