He was born April 20, 1951, in Silverton, Ore, to Wesley Samuel and Dory (Bright) Hicks. He grew up in Skamokawa and graduated from Vernonia High School and Centralia College. Mr. Hicks served in the Army. He served two tours as a paratrooper in Vietnam and was a first sergeant in the Army Reserves. He served two tours in Bosnia, with the 448 Civil Affairs Battalion in Iraq, Haiti and Bangladesh. Mr. Hicks was a supervisor of construction inspectors for the city of Olympia. He married Leeann Jordan on Nov. 11, 1999. She survives him. Also surviving are a daughter, Annie Hicks; two stepdaughters, Haley Kistler and Heather Murray; a stepson, Sam Schrager; seven siblings, Michael Hicks, Thomas Hicks, Chris Hicks, John Hicks, Sam Hicks, David Hicks and Barbara Miller; his parents; four step-grandchildren; and 11 nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. today at Evergreen Lutheran Church in Seabeck, Wash. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Kit5sap County, P.O.
