He was born in Mineral City, Ohio to Charles Newton & Ethel May (Nelson) Hite. He entered the Military serving in the U.S. Navy for 27 years. Of that time he served during WWII and the Korean War, he retired from his military service in 1963. Over the years he worked as a farmer, was employed by Tolleycraft, a self employed well driller and lastly was an electrician for Reynolds before leaving to travel & enjoy life. He was a member of the Longview Church of the Nazarene where he was very involved in church activities. He also volunteered 1200 hours of service at St. John Medical Center. He also was a member of the Cowlitz Timber Trails, Washington State Mineralogical Society and the Fleet Reserve Association where he had also served as their past secretary. He loved gardening and enjoyed tinkering – building and creating things. He was easy going, humorous and an extremely honorable man. He really believed that your word was your bond; he loved helping others and was always just a phone call away. He was preceded in death by his loving first wife, Patricia D. (Slayden) Hite in 1982. They were married in Reno, Nevada on July 23, 1943. He was then preceded in death by his loving second wife, Ruby E. (Rapp Huffman) Hite in 2004. They were married in Longview, Washington on June 23, 1983. He was also preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister. Survivors include: Daughters: Paula Gunnels, Patsy Hite, Pamela Hite, Peggy Parr, & Pearl Madson; Son Paul Hite, Jr.; Step Son; Bob Huffman; Step Daughter Nancy Rarey. There are 22 Grandchildren: Steven Mansur, Sheila Davis, Ron Rowe, Jackie Boothman, David & Doug McKee, Leri Jacobs, Jamie & Stephanie Cashner, Annie, Chris, Bowen & Bryant Parr, Jeff Madson, Jessica & Jennifer Wilks, ReeAnn Vaughn, Darbi Huffman, Denise Brady, David & Kirk Sommer & Kim Murdock, & Amber MayLee Hite-Jen. There are also 27 Great Grandchildren: Felicia, Phillip & Mitchell Cadwell, Bailey Ann Davis, Robert Flemming, Joel Davis, Sarah & Emily Rowe, Duncon & Dakottan Jacobs, Joy Vaughn, Bryce & Avery Smellman, Dolton & Dylan Rose Brady, Tucker Richards, Walter & Rarey Sommer, Whitney, Ian, Caleb & Jason Ju Sommer, Roxanne, Rebecca, Jamie, Colton & Tymber Murdock. He is also survived by a very large extended family. Graveside Services will be held at Green Hills Memorial Gardens at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 19, 2006, a Memorial Service will follow at 1:00 P.M. Longview Church of the Nazarene, 814 – 15th Avenue. Friends are welcome to pay their respects at Columbia Funeral Service on Tuesday and Wednesday from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
