Rob was born June 11, 1932 to Cicero and Frances Howell in Los Angeles, CA. He graduated from Oak Harbor High School and Lower Columbia College. On December 5, 1969 he married Sandy Helms in Abilene, TX. Rob retired in March of 1971 after 20 years with the US Air Force. He was a Flight Engineer for C-130-E Aircraft, flew Bob Hope on USO tours, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, plus other awards. Rob was a member of the Kelso VFW Post 3017 and was a post member of the Cowlitz County Sheriff Reserves. He loved fishing and hunting and was very proud of his 5 point elk he got. Rob loved taking fishing trips with family and dear friends Rich Phillips, George Simonson and Gene Gardner. He loved teaching his grandkids to fish and shared many fishing stories with anyone. He was very proud of his son Scott fly tying and all the family and grandchildren. Rob had a hearty laugh and a smile no one could forget. He enjoyed a good book and loved to joke. Holidays were very special to him. He loved the Lord so much and loved helping teach Sunday School, taking kids' luggage to camp each summer. He dearly loved his Pastor Ned and Marcene Landers and his big sister in Christ, Inez Dreveskrocht. He is survived by sons, Scott Howell of Bothell, WA, Christian Howell of Lincoln City, OR, and Jason Day of Boring, OR; daughters, Amber Ball of Puyallup, WA and Sherri Nordquist of Longview, WA; grandsons, Stephen Howell of Vancouver, WA, Mikail Nordquist of Longview, WA, Jason A. Day Jr. of Irriagon, OR and Tanner R. Day of Boring, OR; grand- daughters, Stasia and Dasia Ball of Puyallup, WA, Jackie Nordquist and Olivia Nordquist, both of Longview, WA, great grandson, Tristen Howell of Vancouver, WA, former wife, friend and caretaker Sandy Helms of Longview, WA and "big sister" Peggy (Jerry) Wetle of Granbury, TX. Rob was preceded in death by brother, George, parents, C.L. and Frances Howell and son, Jack Howell. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, March 26, 2006 at 3pm at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Ned Landers officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Crones Foundation or your local FISH or Calvary Baptist Youth Camp Fund. Green Hills Memorial Gardens are in charge of arrangements.
