He was born April 7, 1936, in Silver Lake to Chester D. Huls and Jewell Holderman Melton and attended Toutle schools. Mr. Huls served in the Navy as a Seabee during the Korean War. He was a logger, mechanic and commercial fisherman, living in Alaska for 18 years. He married Madge D. Hearld on Aug. 15, 1969, in Kelso. She survives him. Also surviving are three sons, Chester Huls, Keith Huls and LeRoy Huls; four daughters, Verra Bohna, Janice Huls, Melody Huls and Betty Hay; 18 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three nieces; and a nephew. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Toutle Christian Fellowship. Burial will take place at Willamette National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Home Health & Hospice, P.O. Box 2067, Longview, WA 98632. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Columbia Funeral Service.
