He was born September 5, 1968 to Bruce A. Johnstun and Chris (Nesbitt) Johnstun/Bailey /Hyatt. As a young child Doug was active in sports. He played soccer and little league baseball. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his dad, Bruce. He has loved fishing since the age of three when he caught his first bass. He never turned down an opportunity to go fishing and had a great time with his step-dad, Bob, and family friend, Gary Henthorn over the years. Doug was an active child. He enjoyed family activities, camping, clam digging, and all the things little boys love. When Doug was 10 years old he had a tragic accident and fell from a tree. He sustained a severe head injury which left him with certain disabilities the rest of his life. Doug attended Longview schools. He proudly earned his GED on March 1, 2001 from LCC. In his adult years Doug liked to build bird houses and feeders and grow vegetables. He always took a lot of pride in being independent and living on his own. Doug loved to tell stories and had a great sense of humor. He was a great cribbage player and enjoyed chess as well. He made sure to keep popsicles in his freezer to treat the neighborhood children. He loved animals and had just recently adopted a cat. Doug leaves behind an extended family including his dad and step-mom, Bruce and Carol Johnstun of Clatskanie, OR; his mom and step-dad Chris and Riley Hyatt of Longview; step-dad, Bob Bailey of Longview; brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Jennifer Johnstun of Merlin, OR; sister, Jana Bailey of Seattle, WA; and sister and brother-in-law, Diana and Geoff Peterson of Woodburn, OR. Doug also has two step-brothers, Brad Bailey of Vancouver, WA and Tim Bailey of Longview; step- sister and brother-in-law, Star and Chris Walker of Longview. Doug also leaves 7 cousins, 1 nephew, 1 niece, and several aunts and uncles. His grandparents include Ray and Ella Johnstun and Florence Berg, all of Rainier, OR, Betty Bonser of Longview, and Jack and Brenda Nesbitt of Kalama, WA. Doug was a man who was special in many ways and has touched the lives of many people in our community. He will be truly missed. A private ceremony is planned by the family.
