Gertrude Harriss "Grandma Gertie",Age 99, passed away peacefully at her home in Kirkland, Washington, on November 11, 2005, surrounded by her loving family. Gertie was born July 7, 1906 in Creston, Iowa, and moved to Longview, Washington, in 1925, where she met and married Lucien Lanphear in 1927. They were married until his death in 1967. In 1971, she married Henry Wickman of Longview, Washington. Henry passed away in 1997. She is survived by her much-loved and loving sister Dorothy Belle Cairns of Lynnwood, Washington. From her marriage to Lucien Lanphear, Gertie is survived by her sons Harriss (Mary) Lanphear of Mill Creek, Washington, and Joel (Karen) Lanphear of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. She is also survived by Henry's children, whom she thought of as her own: sons Ed (Sally) Wickman of Napa, California, and Jerry (Lynn) Wickman of Auburn, California, and daughters Jeanette (Jim) Eckstein of Hector, Minnesota, and Barbara (Paul) Kirchman of Estero, Florida. In addition to her six children, she leaves a still-growing family which numbered, at last count, 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great- granchildren. There will be a Celebration of Gertie's Life on Sunday, November 20th, at 3:00 p.m. at Kirkland Lodge, 6505 Lakeview Dr., Kirkland, Washington. In lieu of flowers, Gertie requested that donations be made in her name to Providence Hospice Care, 425 Pontius Ave. N., Suite 300, Seattle, WA 98109. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff members of Kirkland Lodge, and to Providence Hospice Care for their outstanding care and love shown to Gertie. A special thank you to Dr. Victoria Marxsen, of Kirkland, Washington, for her excellent care of Gertie and her support of the wishes of Gertie and her family.
