Ruth Hazelton Linn, age 97, was born in Salem, Oregon, May 22, 1908 and died November 4, 2005 in Longview, Washington. Her mother, Rebecca, had come west on a covered wagon. In 1931, Ruth married Don Linn who at the time was a show-card artist and did various jobs at the Columbia Theatre in Longview to make a living during the Great Depression. He later founded Linn Sign Company. Ruth joined Don as a young bride when Longviewwas a young town; in existence only eight years. He passed away in 1996 after more than 60 years of marriage. Ruth was always very involved in community affairs, and was president of various PTA's, The Altrusa Club, and was active in the Business and Professional Women's Club and the Democratic party. As a young mother she was employed by the Steele Funeral Home as a soloist and was later a bridal consultant. After a harrowing experience of her car sliding on black ice into the Cowlitz River and her miraculous rescue over thirty years ago, she was in demand throughout the Northwest as an inspirational speaker telling of her rescue and recovery. She is survived by three daughters, Louise Newman of Longview, married to Elton, Nancy Wood of Washougal and husband Omar, Sylvia Smith of Lakewood with husband Tom, and son, Jon with wife Emma of San Jose, Costa Rica, and a sister, Jean Loomis and her husband, Bob, of Forest Grove, Oregon. In addition she is survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Those in the Longview area are Cindy Stewart, with husband Bob and children Bobby, Jackie and Alex; Andie Hanes with wife Debbie and children Bryson, Linnsey and Nicole and Larry Wood and wife Traci, with children Madeline and Landon. Ruth will be remembered for her gracious ways, her love of her Lord, enjoyment of watching the kick-off of college football games, her love of travel and her enjoyment of her many friends. Friends are welcome to pay their respects at Columbia Funeral Service on Sunday, November 6, 2005 from 10:00a.m. to 4:00p.m. and Monday, November 7, 2005 from 9:00a.m.-noon. Her service is Monday, November 7 at 1:00p.m. at Kelso Assembly of God Church, 403 Academy Street, Kelso. Columbia Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.
