She was born at home on October 17, 1915 in Curtis, Wisconsin to second generation German immigrants Arthur and Lena Tonn and spent her early years in Curtis, Wisconsin. She eventually met and married Wilho T. (Bill) Maki. Following their marriage, they moved to a farm in Owen, Wisconsin. In 1954, Bill and Pearl sold the farm and moved west to Longview where they had friends who had moved ahead of them. Pearl took a job with the County Juvenile Detention Center in Kelso where she really enjoyed the position as Matron. She enjoyed helping the kids who crossed her path and enjoyed and took pride in cooking for the county judges for 17 years before retiring in 1983. Pearl was content to stay close to home during her retirement years enjoying family and hearing of their successes. Pearl was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Wilho (Bill) Maki and a son, Karl Arne Maki. Pearl is survived by a twin sister, Lyrl Heckman of Chicago, Illinois; two daughters, Judy Maki McBrayer of Luck, Wisconsin and Elaine Maki Traub of Beaverton, Oregon; and a son, Don Maki of Kalama. Also surviving Pearl are her grandchildren, Mike McBrayer of Amery, Wisconsin; Nancy Elert of Luck, Wisconsin; Mark Traub of Redmond, Washington; and Jason Traub of Issaquah, Washington. Pearl also leaves 4 great grandchildren, Nicholas and Sarah Elert of Luck, Wisconsin and Conner and Ryan McBrayer of Amery, Wisconsin. Pearl will be greatly missed by family and friends and we all grieve her departure but God has a better plan for her. The family would like to thank the staff at Frontier for their caring service to Pearl during her two year stay.
