He was born Jan. 11, 1931, in Kelso to Ray and Minnie (Gunnari) Maki. He attended Kelso High School as a member of the class of 1948. He graduated from Reed College, and the University of Washington with a B.S. in sanitary science. He served in the Army as a medical assistant on Enewitak Atoll in the South Pacific and also served in the Army Reserve. Mr. Maki was a registered sanitarian for King County Public Health in the late 1950s and early 1960s. He was the founding father and Professor of Horticulture at Bellevue Community College from 1965 to 1995. He is survived by a daughter, Denise Wiebel; two sons, Duane Maki and James Maki; and three granddaughters. No service will be held.
