She was born Jan. 28, 1924, in Grovont, Wyo., to Ozro "Shorty" and Huldah Mariah (Budge) Davis. She grew up on her grandparents' ranch in Jackson Hole, Wyo. Mrs. Makinster attended business school in Odgen, Utah, and worked at Hill Air Force Base. Her first husband, Cecil Germann, preceded her in death in 1948, and she moved to Goble, Ore., in 1949. She married Clifford Makinster on Nov. 4, 1955, in St. Helens, Ore. They lived in Seaside, Ore., before moving to Rainier in 1968. Mrs. Makinster wrote a cooking column called "The Recipe Tree" for The Daily News from 1969 to 1987, interviewing more than 300 local cooks. She is survived by her husband; a son, Jim Makinster; two daughters, Nan Wilkes and Kit Makinster; three grandsons; and three great-grandchildren. A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Haakinson- Groulx Mortuary Chapel in Rainier. Cremation has taken place. A private inurnment will be held.
