John Robert Marek Sr., 78, of Rainier, died March 7, 2006. 

He was born July 29, 1927, in Monroe, Wash., to Frank Melvin and Mable Selma 
(Graunitz) Marek and attended Rainier schools. 

Mr. Marek served in the Army and worked at RSG Forest Products for 40 years, 
retiring in 1989. 

He married Mary Kathrine Welter on April 21, 1950, in Longview. She preceded 
him in death Sept. 24, 2003. 

Survivors include his special friend, Darliss Clay; a son, John Marek Jr.; two 
daughters, Katherine Marek and Cindy Marek; and four grandchildren. 

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rainier Assembly of God Church. A 
committal service will follow at 1 p.m. at Neer City Cemetery. Visitation will 
be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday at Haakinson-Groulx Mortuary, in Rainier.
