Stepp steppmom5@hotmail.com June 3, 2006, 4:43 pm Published in The Daily News on 4/5/2006. www.tdn.com/obits Ambrose Harold Marier was born May 15, 1932 to Joseph and Emily Bernier Marier in St. Paul, Minnesota and passed March 30, 2006 at home in Kalama, WA. He was educated in Catholic schools beginning at age 5, won Minnesota's State doubles championship in tennis his senior year of high school, and later attended 2 years at St. Johns College in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Soon after his schooling, Ambrose entered the Air Force, achieved the rank of sergeant, and excelled as a cook. Returning to his hometown of Hugo, MN Ambrose worked closely with his father at the family owned feed mill, meeting the needs of local farmers. By 1957, Ambrose moved to the Seattle area to become a cement mason and continued his trade in the local area by pouring and finishing the cement cooling tower at Trojan and the Kalama grain elevators after moving here in the early 1970s. Ambrose had many talents. He was an excellent cook and wine maker, fished in the ocean locating a catch when no one else was netting, grew a garden every year with tomatoes being his specialty, and performed with a choir and sang solo at school and church. He loved spending time with his family playing cards, horseshoes and preparing meals. It was in Woodland that he met his future wife, Sandra, at that time, his oldest son's kindergarten teacher. They were married November 28, 1975. Children in this family include Joseph Marier of Vancouver, Michael Marier of Kelso, Carol and Jerry of Kalama, step children, Stan Nelson of Bokeelia, FL, Beth Nelson of Davis, CA, and Amy Coleman of Portland. Other family members are sister, Germaine Tricola of Woodland, and brothers, Joseph and Quentin Marier of Hugo, MN, a grandson, Christopher Marier of Vancouver, and many nieces and nephews. Another sister, Therese Cox, preceded him in death.
