She was a resident of the Emerald Heights retirement complex. She was born on a farm near Mowrystown, Ohio on January 19, 1917 to Harry and Zelline Ruble. She met her husband, John, when they both worked for the Mead Corporation in Chillicothe, Ohio, and they had a blind date for a 4th of July picnic in 1941. Shortly after that John was called to active duty as a reserve officer. They were married February 21, 1942. They moved many times during their Army days during World War II and during John's 30 years with the Weyerhaeuser Company, but most of their time was spent in the Pacific Northwest. She lived twice in Everett and Longview, Washington. She also lived in Eugene, Oregon, and Brussels, Belgium. She did volunteer work most of her life. While in Everett she was active as a Camp Fire leader, in the First Presbyterian Church and the Everett Golf and Country Club. In Longview she did volunteer work for the Toutle River Ranch Thrift Shop, managing it for several years, and was active in the Presbyterian Church and Longview Country Club. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, John M. McEwen; daughters, Irene R. McEwen of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Marie A. McEwen of Redmond, Washington; and Judy M. Richardson of Scottsdale, Arizona. She also is survived by a granddaughter, Marcy J. Harrington, her husband Ed; their daughters, Madeline and Heidi; and her two sisters, Fern Brickweg of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Coral Garman of Hillsboro, Ohio. A memorial service will be held at Emerald Heights on May 30th at 1:30 pm. Her ashes will be placed in the columbarium at the First Presbyterian Church of Everett.
