McGreevy was born November 7, 1906 in Tekoa Washington to William Hugh McGreevy and Mary Frances (Bigger) McGreevy. Later he moved to Pasco where he worked on a farm. Gordon moved to Longview in the 1930's and worked as a pipe fitter at Weyerhaeuser Company. During World War II he joined the Navy and was a pilot of a landing craft in the Pacific. After returning to Longview he started working at Cowlitz P.U.D. on August 1, 1946. Gordon became a journeyman lineman. His co-worker Whitey Clayton became a very good friend and they spent many years working together. Gordon retired from the P.U.D. in 1971. Gordon and his wife Bernice were married in 1962. They enjoyed building their home together, gardening, traveling, and family. Bernice passed away in 2002 and Gordon missed her everyday. He visited Bernice at the cemetery every Sunday bringing her flowers when possible. His devotion and love for Bernice and for all her family will always be in our memories. Also preceding him in death were brothers William (Bud) McGreevy and C.J. (Neil) McGreevy; Sisters Ellen Schakohl, Jenny McLean, and Margaret McGreevy. His sister Frances Donahue resides in Longview. With a little help from his family, Gordon was able to stay in his home until he suffered a stroke December 29th, 2005. Gordon is "famous" in his family for his wonderful Irish sense of humor, his inventiveness, and his Love. His "inventions" were an ongoing thing throughout his life and always involved making life easier for others and himself. Gordon was honest, straight forward and will also be remembered for his blue, blue eyes that always smiled before he laughed and when someone would come to visit. He saw and did so much in his lifetime. He experienced life from before World War I, through the 1920's, the depression and World War II. We will treasure his stories of years gone by forever.
