Alfreda, known to her family and friends as Freda, passed away peacefully at a Palm Springs rest home on Sunday, October 30, 2005. She was born on March 12, 1916 in Grays River, Washington, to Henry and Emma Oluson. From the age of three she was raised by her adoptive parents Mr. and Mrs. Olaf Danielson. She She attended school in Clatskanie, Oregon as a child and Multnomah Normal School for her college days. Freda married Wayne Moilanen on October 17, 1936 in Longview, Washington and spent their early married life in Midland. She operated a dress shop with her cousin Marie Jolma in Clatskanie for many years. Their only son, Don was born on Mother's day the 14th of May, 1943 in Clatskanie. They all moved to Redway, California when Don was in second grade and lived there for many years where Freda began her career in banking with Bank of America in Garberville. The family moved to Fort Bragg, California where she continued her employment with the Fort Bragg branch as operations officer. She was active in numerous fraternal organizations and was a great volunteer and contributor throughout her life. Upon her retirement from banking Freda started her career as a motel operator. She operated several properties in Fort Bragg, Garberville and in Lakeport, California. Once retired she moved to Desert Hot Springs and as "snowbirds" she and Wayne enjoyed 26 years of retirement and activities at Hidden Springs Country Club making many great friends as social director of the community for several years. Freda became a widow in January of 2002. Being forever active and young at heart she met and later married Jose Montemayor on May 9, 2003 with whom she shared the remainder of her days. Jose and his children were especially important to Freda and to her children as they continue to be close knit family. Freda is survived by her devoted husband Jose of Desert Hot Springs, California; her son and daughter-in-law, Don & Judee Moilanen of Bend, Oregon; granddaughter, Lisa Moilanen of Santa Rosa, California; and grandson, Kevin Helling of McAllister, Montana. She is also survived by her stepchildren, Alfred, Beatrice, Joanne, Louis, Joe and Raul. A reception celebrating her life and simple ceremony for the disposition of her ashes on the Columbia River will be held in Clatskanie on November 19, 2005 at the Clatskanie River Inn Gathering Room, 600 E. Columbia River Highway from 1pm until 3pm. The family requests memorial donations to your local Hospice or to your local Senior Center.
