Born in Shanghai, China in 1921, to Paul Pickette and Margaret McLaughlin, the family moved to Spokane, WA where she was raised. A member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority at Washington State University, she graduated with a degree in home economics, and taught junior high school in Ritzville, WA for two years before her marriage. On September 14, 1946 she married C. Harper Monroe after his return from the Pacific Theater in World War II. Initially they lived in Seattle, moving to Bellevue in 1952. The family moved to Longview in 1959 where they raised their children, and Mr. Monroe founded an accounting firm, presently known as Monroe DeFrancisco & Lampitt. Following her arrival in Longview, Mrs. Monroe became active in a wide variety of community and church-related organizations and events. A long-serving member of the Lake Guild and Toutle River Ranch, she served in various capacities in the organization and the Toutle River Thrift Shop for many years. She served on the Longview Public Library Board for two terms and was a member of the Friends of St. John Medical Center. An enthusiastic member of Round Robin Study Club and Century Club, she was an avid reader and animal lover. Also active in the Longview Country Club, Washington Athletic Club, Orthopedic Guild, St. Anne's Circle, and St. John's Hospital, she served as a member and board member of the Humane Society, and was active in many other organizations. Until shortly before she died, Mrs. Monroe could be seen walking her smooth coated collie, Homer, around the lake. A life-long Catholic, she was a member of St. Rose Churh since 1959. She is survived by four children; Cathy Natt of Mill Valley, CA; Mike Monroe of Edmonds, WA; Steve Monroe of Memphis, TN and Molly Monroe of London, England, and four grandchildren: Andrew Natt, Megan Natt, Justin Monroe and Nathan Monroe. Her brother, Paul Pickette, lives in Spokane, WA. The family requests that any rememberances be made to the Toutle River Guild, The Humane Society or the Longview Public Library.
