He was born to Joe and Grace (Anderson) Nelson on February 14, 1917 near Ansley, Nebraska. He attended school there until, as a teenager, his family moved to Kelso, Washington in 1935. He worked at M&M Plywood until joining the Navy in World War II. He was a gunner on a supply ship delivering services to ports all over the Pacific. During the war, he met and married Peggy (De Laney) in California, where they made their home. They moved to Sioux City, Iowa and spent many years there, eventually moving back to California. Most of his life he worked as a roofer. He and Peggy divorced and in later years he married Virginia (Byers) Weekley, a widow, whom he had known before he went into the Navy. They spent twelve years traveling between their homes in Longview and San Manuel, Arizona. The last couple years kept them closer to home because of health problems. Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother, Ralph, and a sister, Marjorie. He is survived and will be missed by his wife, Virginia, his sister, Edna Mae Bristol, and daughters, Kay (Dick) Advineuta, Jackie (Frank) Shenane, Jeannie Nelson and their families, including many grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He also held dear his nieces and nephews and their children. His stepchildren are Janet (Jerry) Williams, Pete (Sharon) Weekley, Jinny Waldron, Debbie Weekley and their families and loved ones. The funeral service will take place at Columbia Funeral Service in Longview, Washington, February 10, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Viewing prior to service. A celebration of life with refreshments will follow the service, in the social room, at Longview Memorial Park. Private internment at Longview Memorial Park. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so Thursday, February 9, from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and Friday, February 10, from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Care Center, P.O.
