He was born Jan. 22, 1931, in Portland to George and Esther (Couch) Oakes. Mr. Oakes served in the Army during the Korean War. He lived in Kelso for many years and was a machinist/mechanic for Weyerhaeuser Co. He moved to Toledo 15 years ago. He married Ruth Worley in 1968. She preceded him in death in 2002. Mr. Oakes is survived by a daughter, Heidi Catlin; four stepdaughters, Pat Shipley, Sue Thompson, Connie Ramsey and Henrietta Pettit; and numerous grandchildren. A committal service and inurnment will take place at 2 p.m. Friday at Longview Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park & Crematory.
