Brad Oxnam passed away on Sunday March 12th in Sun City, Arizona after a brief illness. He was 94 years old. Born in Ogden, Utah, Brad first arrived in Longview in 1929. Only 17, he moved in with his sister Helen and brother-in-law Walt Lucas. During his very long life here, Brad devoted himself to the things he loved- his family, his horses and animals, his fishing, and his friends, many of them fellow Elks. Brad always had a special connection to animals, and he knew just how to communicate with them. Experienced on the farm, after World War II, he joined the Cowlitz County Sheriff's Posse. Brad trained for search and rescue operations on horseback, and once helped evacuate parts of Kelso when floods threatened the city's dikes. Many summers were spent traveling and performing with the Posse Drill team at rodeos and horse shows around the Pacific Northwest. One year, Brad and three others won the Washington State Posse pole bending competition at a statewide posse meet in Yakima. Brad was always very social, and loved to meet at the Elks Club on Tuesday mornings for the weekly poker games. He was a member there for 63 years. An avid fisherman, Brad would often rise before dawn to put his pole in at a local river. He knew most of the fellows on the banks, and would share information on current conditions. Most of all, Brad loved his wife Sally and his family. Brad and Sally married in 1938 and raised two daughters, Janez and Judy. The family grew to include three grandsons; Steve and Brad Files and Tim Healea, and four great-grandchildren; Annie, Cameron, J.T., and Erik Files. After Sally died in December of 2002, Brad remained independent, enjoying the home they lived in together, and also spending much time with Janez and her husband Taz Tazioli in Sun City Arizona and Judy and her husband Paul Iverson in Beaverton, Oregon. Recently, doctors said Brad had the heart of a 70 year-old, and anyone with him for even a short time could see how big and strong it really was. He is already greatly missed. At Brad's request, there will be no services. Cremation has taken place. The family would like to thank those at Sun Health Hospice, Sun City, AZ who gave him such loving and dignified care. Remembrances are suggested to any Hospice organization or to a charity of your choice. Contact with the family may be made to Janez Tazioli at 19911 N 108th Ave, Sun City, AZ 85373 Additional Comments: The Daily News, Longview, WA www.tdn.com File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/wa/cowlitz/obits/o/oxnam91gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/wafiles/ File size: 3.2 Kb
