She was born on July 25, 1920 in Havre, Montana to Frank A Shueka and Marie "Mamie" Waganer. The family soon moved to the Aberdeen, Washington area. She graduated with the class of 1938 at South Bend High School. In her youth she was crowned Oyster Festival Queen. She married Glen Packwood on November 3, 1945 in Montesano, Washington. They moved to Bay City, Oregon where they raised their daughter Zella Ann. The Packwoods moved to Castle Rock in 1964. Alta retired from the Longview JCPenney in 1985. Alta was preceded in death by her parents, a step father Wordy Hathaway, her husband, her sister Edna Seacord and her daughter. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Frank Edward & Diane Shucka of Arizona, three grand- children, Tami (Lance) Chambers of Castle Rock, Butch Stuckey of Castle Rock, and Trina Stuckey of Castle Rock, and two great grandsons, Stuart Chambers and Logan Stuckey. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Alta enjoyed and loved her family and friends dearly. She enjoyed gardening, clam digging, family get-togethers, the outdoors, and baking her famous flat apple pie and blackberry pie. She really enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and great grandsons. She enjoyed life. She was the glue for her family and she will be greatly missed. A potluck celebration of her life will be held at her home on Saturday, March 18th from 2- 6 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to a charity of your choice.
