He was born Sept. 17, 1921, in Menahgna, Minn., to Frank Wilho and Emily Marie (Kela) Palomaki. The family moved to the Clatskanie area in 1928. Mr. Palomaki served in the Navy as a radioman from 1942 to 1945 on the USS PC 817. He worked at several local sawmills and was a cat operator for Evenson Logging. In the mid-1970s he began commercial fishing in Alaska. He and his son, Donald, partnered in a Columbia River fish boat from 1978 to 2000. He married Evelyn "Irene" Lammi on Nov. 2, 1947. She survives him. Also surviving are two sons, Steve Palomaki and Donald Palomaki; a brother, Elmer Palomaki; a sister, Elma Long; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Haakinson-Groulx Mortuary in Clatskanie. Vault interment will follow at Murray Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
